    Hello guys,

Eva and I have been doing all of the last minute planning and errands that go into a 5 month international motorcycle trip. We've jumped through the hoops of obtaining a vehicle import permit for Mexico, gotten our series of vaccines, met with our mechanic, Frank of ZMW Adventures, to pick his brain about some behavior issues of our Suzuki DR650's which he helped us prepare for this trip.

It’s been 2 years since we rode from Tucson to Deadhorse, AK and we’ve waited too damn long for another epic ride.

The time is near. We depart Tucson on Sunday, September 30th. We ride 240 miles to the town of Banamichi in the Rio Sonora Valley to stay with Tom and Lynn at their hotel/hacienda for two nights. Tom is a wealth of knowledge regarding travel through Sonora as well as further south.

We hope you will join us on our travels. There are many uncertainties on a trip like this and we hope to reveal our joys as well as our fears and frustrations. With some chutzpah and a little luck we hope to reach the southern terminus of South America - Ushuaia, Argentina - by the end of January.

Please do not hesitate to respond with questions, comments, suggestions... We would love the company.

In ending, I would like to share two of my favorite quotes:

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things can not be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
    Mark Twain

And this quote, incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain, but still a solid one:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I’m in. One month ahead of you in San Cristobal. Tom and Lynn were gracious hosts to me my first night in Mexico too. Have a fun, safe trip and I’m sure we’ll meet somewhere along the route.

In Creel today. WiFi has been so spotty the past couple of days. It was an amazing ride from Banamichi to Sahuaripa. The desert was so green. We stayed at Hotel Alameda which was very clean and had secure parking in well lit parking lot. Taqueria Anali, a small tent in an abandoned parking lot east of the hotel, was a great find.

Yesterday was a long ride from Sahuaripa to Creel. The 20 south started good enough but deteriorated slightly with large bushes encroaching onto the road, likely from the recent heavy rains, making it a green country single lane road. Fortunately there was very little traffic. Pot holes and rockfall were fairly easy to negotiate but the speed came way down. One small dog darted out from a side road and nearly ended up under my front wheel. Numerous head of cattle, horses and donkeys in the road with only two stubborn bulls unwilling to yield - the proverbial Mexican standoff.

    Thanks for riding along.

There is no part of the ride from Banámichi to Creel that isn't a joy to ride.
