I rode in on a street bike, hooked up with a couple more streets and had a great three[IMG] days ridi[IMG]ng and touring DV Park via asphalt. Thanks Again.

That explains all the cool bikes and full campgrounds I encountered over the weekend while doing an all-street ride on a borrowed RT. Next year I'll know better!

I had a great ride with a few of the brothers...
    on friday's Pleasant Putt...
The day started a little slow but we sorted out the boy's that
just didn't want it that bad...
The plan was changed to fit the snow that cover the tops of every
    mtn in sight.

First stop was osbone cabin it's at the end of a very nice canyon

This was a great place to hang out

Here's the cook on his day off

So now that we'er warmed up it's time to find some rocks to play in

Most of us climbed up the hill a bit more, for a better view

single track... :eek1 I sure a few of the boy's would have make look easy
But we passed... maybe next time

Next stop was a mine at the end of another nice canyon
there was a get off on the way up and on the way down :augie
    I don't have pic's so maybe they didn't happen.

Now we'er off to Pleasant canyon with a short pit stop in ballerat
then on to a nice cabin for some Beer's and BS'in

This is a nice cabin... I wish I could have stayed the nite
    Edelways appoved

    Farrington in the cabin

The brothers tak'in in the view

Ok time to find the snow

Here's a few pic's of pleasant canyon on the way down

Here are a couple of pictures from the nOObs ride Saturday to The Racetrack. We were supposed to go to Chloride and Titus Canyon, but by the time we left it wasn't clear whether Titus was open yet, so we decided to just cruise straight up to the The Racetrack instead. I must say I was mighty impressed.

    Stopping at Ubehebe Crater

We had no major incidents the whole day, everyone did really well, except for maybe a couple of cases of shaken baby syndrome on the washboard.

Guess where this picture was taken?

Kind of silly, but this is where my camera died so I don't have any pictures of The Racetrack :lol3 I know NWAF and wife took quite a few pictures out there, so please chime in!

It was a great weekend! Good seeing everyone, old and new.

    DV N00b Rally - year 4 (2011)

So the event started off easy enough, I brought a ADV N00B to the party.

Some pasty white dude from Wales (Oliver aka Boomer84), seems to turn red if you hit him with a bright light.

Maybe taking him to the desert was not such a great idea....

But he tells a good story and seems to like flowers...

    Anyway...

Started out Thursday morning and drove out to Panamint from the house with Oliver in tow following on the bike.

I was carrying gear for 4 riders in total in the truck so there was no room for another bike since I had to get firewood as well.

Rider914 and his friend Bob were going to ride in from Rancho on Friday on the 525's just cause.

Got to camp and had everything set up and settled in for a relaxing evening....

Well the gale force winds that night pretty much took care of any thoughts for a quiet nights rest.

Friday dawned with clear sky's and all the surrounding mountains covered in snow.

Met up with a group of N00B's from Nor Cal.

I cant remember their names and hope they read this report and will PM me who they are in the mean time I will refer to them as follows.

HIPPY (KTM450) - Cause he had the long hair unshaven tree huger look about him (in front)
Lurch (DRZ400) - on the DRZ cause he was a big dude on a little bike. Looked like a monkey fkin a football....
GasBag (KTM525)- where to begin...oh and he had some huge gas tank on the bike

I prolly have this mixed up but unless you correct me too bad...

We decided to try the Hunter/Lippencott loop I had originally planned. We knew there was going to be snow just not sure how much.

Left camp at 830 and headed out on the ride to South Pass was fast an uneventful.

Fork in the road, Right is South Pass, Left is White Mountain Talc which we tool later..

While on the way to S.P. there was a sheet of ice off to the side of the road on Saline Valley, never seen that before in DV so took a pic.

As we climbed continued to see more and more of the white stuff...

A lot more showed up and we just kept on going up into the snow and clouds...

Yeah this pretty much summed my thoughts on the matter...

This was as we got to the top of S.P.

It was amazing to see so much snow, first time I ever saw it this deep.

We get to the fork in the road and head up Hunter Mountain proper...

I waited at the fork to take pics and see what they turned up.

Where the three of them get properly stuck a few hundred yards up the road.

    Still digging out...

If nothing else they were determined to get around that next bend...

They actually did make it but decided it was too much snow (which was true) and the rest of the way would be torture.

This was the view looking back towards South Pass.

Coming back down we decided to try our luck on White Mountain Talc.

It was the same deal as Hunter, since the clouds were rolling into the peaks where we were heading we just turned around, no pics of this stretch since it was not much to see.

We find this small two track and decide to follow it and see where it led, this was a fun little loop of a few miles which proved to be just some fun not too technical riding with a bit of mining crap thrown in for good measure.

We get back to camp and get ready for dinner...

I tried to tell Cathy about our ride but she was in no mood to hear any of it for some reason...her son wasn't too interested either it appeared.

The next day I decide to hook up with Tbarstow and run sweep on his ride.

Only one person that was signed up for my Sat ride showed up so he also got in the mix. There was a total of 6 riders.

    WildChild (XR400)
    TBarstow (X_Challenge)
    DSM8 (625SXC)
    TwoWheelsGood (wr250)
    Slothers (690)
    JonF (KTM 625)

The ride out to Goler was pretty quick. The steps were passed in pretty quick succession and we moved on through to Mengle and the Geologist cabin. This was a long and fast ride so not too many pictures were taken. I did get proof that TBarstow does fall on his bike but he sure does pick it up fast.

    Striped Butte

    Geologist Cabin and the crew

Da Man and leader of this wrecking crew...

After the cabin we continued on to West Side Road with a quick stop at an old mine.

    Looking out from the mine.

How the hell did that get up there?

    Continuing out...

    West Side Road...

    Salt flats along the road...

Get back to Furnace Creek for gas and then slab it back to camp.

Going over the pass back to camp..

JonF, he won the riding school thing..

And there is the obligatory desert flowers shot...

    Joel,
Thanks for the last minute Hoookups. It's too bad we went able to coordinate riding together but Walt and I had a blast. The 990 for the first time in the dirt rocked. Can't believe how well it handles once the suspension is done up it will be perfect.
You did an awesome job with sat festivities and all who handled the food did a great job.

    Thanks again.
Maybe next year I can get my shit together earlier.

Two of the Strada's came down with a 990 rider that I knew from last year but I cant recall his name.

One rider has off road experience the other did not.

They hit some off road and the bikes seem to have done fine but with a 190 rear street tire it was a little squirmy in the corners they were saying.

    :huh

Dunno if they will get knobbies for it though
