This will be the reverse of a trip I started a little over a year ago. Then the plan was to trailer to Matamoras and ride to Panama. I got as far as Oaxaca when circumstances forced me to turn around.

This year the trip will be in the opposite direction. I'm flying to Panama City tomorrow, taking a bus to David on Sunday where Panama Paul will pick me up. We'll head to his place outside David where he lives and where the '92 R100GS I bought from him is domiciled. We'll spend a few days there before heading out. We plan on being in San Jose, Costa Rica, the weekend of the 25th for a bike show then head towards Guatemala. We should get to Guatemala around the 5th of February where I'll stop at San Pedro la Laguna and Paul will head back home for an upcoming ride to Ushuaia.

I plan on spending 3-4 weeks in San Pedro taking Spanish immersion classes before heading north towards home around the middle of March. I'm also thinking of splitting the immersion classes between San Pedro and Antigua. Alan (aatc9988) is planning on being in San Pedro when I am and there is the possibility that Pilot will be there also.

Pretty simple plan, right? I hoping it stays that way, but time will tell. I've had a couple of unfortunate incidents off road lately so I plan on sticking to the pavement as much as possible. I've got my MedJet Assist plan up-to-date but am hoping I don't have to use it.

The good news in Kansas City is that they will be experiencing the coldest week of the season after I leave. I would have hated to leave on a trip like this if the forecast had been for weather in the 60s. This is a picture I took yesterday at "suicide hill" just down the street from my house.

Packing for the trip has not gone as planned. I had planned on taking just this suitcase and a large dry sack. Right now the suitcase is full, the large dry sack is full and I have added a smaller dry sack and a small backpack.

So here's where I'm at right now, including Jimmie the cat. :lol3

Thanks, JL. Sorry about the way your trip turned out :cry.

I talked to Paul last night and he hadn't checked in for a few days and was really sorry to hear the news of your trip.

Hope to run across you some day on another adventure :super.

OUCH! OUCH! OUCH! Boy did I get some bad news when I was checking my luggage in today. I had 4 bags to check in and found out the limit was 2 per person (I know, I should have known that). That wasn't the bad news. The bad news was I got charged $100 PER BAG to check in the bags. I could have spent some time rearranging things and gotten it down to 3 bags but just bit the bullet and checked the 2 extra bags.

Thanks, Drathar. I see you're from Nebraska. Last June I met some friends in North Platte on the 2nd day of a planned 6 week trip. We rode west for a while and then headed north on a dirt/gravel road. I hit a patch of deep sand when I was probably not paying attention and lost it. Broke my collar bone, ribs and ankle and that was the end of my trip. I'm hoping this one turns out better :super

Take photos of anything warm for those of us boiling our brains out in South Florida. Twisty roads would also be appreciated.

I was sitting next to the guy in the background of your photo from last night. I was having a beer and waiting for a carry out pizza at Italian Delight. I cant believe I didnt see you there. Thats a good place to eat before you go on a trip. John is a Ducati rider.

It looks like the route my friends have planned doesn´t take us into El Salvador. My goal in stopping in Guatemala and learning Spanish is to be able to come down to CA on my own and not depend on others. So, next trip down, I promise to stop in El Salvador.
