Lack of travel options got you down? Waiting on the great 2020 Covid lock down to lift? Maybe just a social distancing day ride is in order? If any of the above applies, strap on a helmet, get on your scooter and join the 2020 NC State Park Tour.

This is a departure from the tag format as it allows you to roam at will without waiting (and oh, do we wait) for those tag games to move along. It’s just you and your bike.

    The rules are simple.
    • Take a picture of your bike parked in front (or within view) of the state park ENTRANCE SIGN. That’s not a direction sign, visitor center sign, it’s the entrance sign. This way you can ride the tour even if the park is closed.
    • The tour ends on 31 December 2020
File tags are discouraged, but if you took the picture in 2020 - OK.

There are 34 State Parks, as identified by the NC State Parks System. We are not counting/allowing Recreation Areas or Natural Areas, just the State Parks. There’s not a lot of them, but there's plenty of opportunity to ramble around the state and see some of our treasures.

This tour isn’t competitive, but if you’re into that (and that’s cool) I will track who’s got what and how many. I’ll also try to track the number of grabs per park - just for fun. That will be on post #3.

While all you need for a "grab it" is your bike and the entrance sign, consider going in, looking around, having a cooler lunch and chllin.. You are welcome (encouraged) to post additional pictures on your “grab” post.

Be safe, stay healthy and enjoy the ride…

Note: If you grab a park and I don't list you, please let me know, I probably just missed it. I'm getting old and actually do have a life - occasionally riding motorcycles myself :D

This is the idea. Sometimes you may not be able to park right in front of the sign. No worries, just get it in the picture.

    Covid-19 Note:
Riding during the lockdown is controversial.

I interpret NC Executive Order #121, Para 3.iii. For Outdoor Activity as a green light to motorcycle responsibly. Take a lunch, social distance and bring a mask just in case.

Make your own choice, but please don’t use this game as a platform to judge.

    Thank you

I like the idea and will participate.

Mt Mitchell is not possible until they reopen the Parkway. (Unless you are willing to risk going around a couple gates)

Glad to have you Boatman, thanks for joining in. Good tip on your Parkway, no need to go around barricades, game goes to the end of the year.

Sounds like fun. Gate locked so this is best I could do.

Congrats 4Paws on the first grab it, it looks like it was a nice day for a ride. And with a side car rig to boot..

Gate locked aside, this is exactly the picture we want. Hopefully, after 8 May we can get inside the parks and add some fluff to our posts.
    Cheers

Apparently there's more than one entrance to this state park. And the road to this entrance can be fun:p3rry

    Good job Frankie :thumb
I figured you might make a stab at this one if you went to Edenton today. It's a nice ride to that park, to bad it's closed as it's a good one to walk around. Some of the side roads around there can put you into some deep sand, best to stick to pavement - unless you like sand :D

I should have read the rules.

    Duh. :muutt

    No worries.

I can delete. Or keep it up for others to learn from my dumbassedness.
