Later that afternoon, Nachtflug called the remaining Chapter members into an Executive Session at which point the following business was addressed. It was voted to award Tribeless with the long-distance award, having come from near Princeton, NJ. Your award, Tribeless, is an Nachtflug autographed egg shell from the very frittata that was served. Voted: 8-0-0. It was voted to continue these monthly breakfast meetings at varying locations throughout the district, rain, sun, snow or sleet. Bike or cage. Voted: 8-0-1 (Dizave abstained because he was asleep on the front lawn.) Other business was discussed, but that shall remain subject to the confines of the executive session and not subject to the open meeting law. At which point, it was voted to adjourn. 8-0-0.
My friends, What a great choice for location. In the middle-earth, conveniently equidistant from NE/NY contingent, and smack in the midst of some of the greatest riding around. Big thanks to Lisa and Craig for their hospitality. Lisa's breakfast was the best I've had in... I guess... in my lifetime. Yum! El Presidente no longer has to try to get into anyone's panties, 'cause now he's got a pair of his very own! With AdvRider logo and his own likeness, no less. :tongue Ross, common sense dictates that taking off alone on an unfamiliar muddy trail while riding a 600lb bike isn't the wisest of choices. But then again, wisdom is put on the back burner after you have a sip of Flyingmonkey's turkish coffee. A word of advice: put some medium strength locktite on those Tobinator screws if you keep riding trails with them. :): Jeff, please remind me not to ride in front of you without sunglasses of tinted mirrors. I think my back is sunburnt too. Tribeless, advice of the day for you: size DOES matter. (I'm talking about Torx wrenches, of course.) It was great to see all of you, folks! Kudos to Vice President Rabia for the idea. -- Ilya P.S.: What? Noone got the stoppie picture? Sigh...
I was right there a little earlier in the evening. In a cage. It sucked. Wish I could have been in VT- sounds like it was a great time! NHGS
Whoa -- you guys ride the shoulder when it gets backed up? Aren't you worried about getting nabbed by your friendly state police officers? In CA, we of course just lane-split with impunity right through the traffic jam. So I'm very curious what the strategies are out here and what you can get away with. While I haven't lane-split out here yet, I will say I've made some pretty suspect lane changes through slow traffic in quick succession, if you catch my drift. I hate not being able to lane split.
I lane split. But only carefully and not at high speed. Always watch for cops. I haven't gotten pulled over for splitting lanes yet. But if I did, I'd burst in tears. If it works for my wife, it should work for me too. right, guys? Right? -- Ilya
Had to weigh the alternatives: deal w/ trooper, who couldn't possibly get to where I was anyway due to the traffic, or deal with bike catching fire, a real possibility on a GS :): I do it when I'm worried about the bike. I suffered with everyone else for about 30 mins first. Oh and what iillyyaa said. 10MPH. -d
hmm go figure... I do this too. I figure if it's legal in cali up to 35 mph, then it should be here too. while I'm doing it, I think about the story for the cop should the it become necessary. it hasn't yet. a friend got caught by a cop that opened his door to block the passage.... lesson learned: stay to the right. also, short hops, most of the time, you'll see a cop and be able to pull into a gap before he spots you in his mirror. trust me on that one. it's also MUCH easier if you don't have your cases on.
A contrast in styles. Two beautiful bikes on a perfect Sunday in September. FlyingMonkey is living life!!! GSGirl, Tim_in_NH, CroMag, and FlyingMonkey meet in NH for the ride to hell, er I mean VT for Vespa-Duke Food Fest. Also known as the NE Chapter Chat and Chew. Take some of these: Roast 'em in one of those: And you start seeing spots and worshipping door jambs: No kidding that shit was strong. Rabia drank some and started eating uncooked sausages! Back out front, Vespa demostrates proper Urban Cowboy riding technique: Dizave was wondering if this thing had ABS: We then drank more coffee, smoked cigars, and waited for the cops to come: Meanwhile, Iillyyaa inspects the lineup for the GS ride. This town just ain't been the same since those Adventure Riders moved in, dadgummit! Pastoral view from the porch: Vespa overlooks the complete chaos he has created with pride. DukeGirl really LIKES her coffee and mimosa. Then Vespa decides to take us backcountry and kick our asses! Who has the map? Gillmartin finally came in to bail me out. He rides that machine like a bicycle. And those rocks were HUGE! Aha! CroMag did not tell Gillmartin there was quicksand down there! Back on more Firma Terra, Flug laughs his evil commander laugh as Vespa plunges into the river. Little did we know that Vespa, who has been in Vermont 4 weeks, is now a backwoodsman and was simply poised to catch fresh salmon for dinner. We then returned to HQ, ate more food, drank more drink, then suited up for the cruise home. Vespa passed out from too much fun, so his evil twin brother Hugo said he would escort us out of town, heh-heh-heh.
Phew, that was scary. I'm gonna have one to toast you guys. Thanks, Baldy. I really did read the directions. Really.
Damn was really planning on riding up until ole hurricane Isabel blew my power lines away....by the time we got it back it was alittle too late to make the bonzai run and expect any food, beer or victims left! Ended up heading south to MD for a Guzzi Rally.....but ADV Vermount was always on my mind....... DukeGirl based on the fact that I burned many slightly usable brain cells wishing I was there, a care package would gladly be accepted! Hmmmmm heck just send the booze and cigars...everything lese maybe a little "green" before I received it. I'm in for the next one...... Someone has to beat that Suede wearin Tribless for long ride!!!!!
Hey can we get el Presidente' to pull out the ole ADV regions map...yes the one he has been using as a napkin for the last 2 years...... As usual us "southern folk" aren't sure of our loyalty!!! And by the way, has the Mid Atlantic pres been released from jail yet????????
CroMag, that was some fine java you whipped up there! I'm shopping for a roaster in another window as I type this. The 950 Adventure S ride looked like a blast. Can't wait to be able to join y'all on the next one. (GSGirl, you gonna make me deal or what )
