2018-09-17 Ghangri Boutique Hotel $34.42. After riding for 3 weeks in India, I flew to Kathmandu Nepal. The immigration line was the slowest I've ever waited in. I took a cab to my hotel 3 miles away. It was 5 pm when I arrived. Judging by the drive there, traffic seems less deadly. And they blow horns, but less frequently. Very relaxing after India. Buildings looked to be cleaner. That's my 3 mile judgment. My room is good size and clean. I'm staying here 2 nights so I can take my time and find a bike to rent. The receptionist said I could take his bike or he would help me find one. I have a list of shops. But I'll see what he comes up with. While the room is cheap meals here are $15. I went out to see what was near. They're putting in new sewer or water lines. So the street is a mess. But even at 7 pm in the dark shops were open. It felt lively. I walked down a dark alley about a block and saw a stupa all lit up. It was huge. And I saw a small restaurant 5 floors up a spiral stair case. That's where I'll eat. They will accept my Indian rupees. I don't have Nepalese rupees yet. I had American chop suey-their version. I had a great view of the Boudhananath Stupa. It's one of the largest in the world. It's a center for the Tibetan community. I'll come back tomorrow. It's only 500 feet from my room. From my table. Not worth posting. But I did. I'm going out on a limb here. I think these are prayer candles. You give money to the person and they light a candle for your prayer. There were several of these around the stupa.
