Thanks TheYeti, glad you're enjoying the report. :D

    Hi El Brad,
Thanks for the info on Twelve Mile Hot Spring, I will check it out next time through.

Thank you and you're welcome AJ990R,
I'm happy you like the videos, especially the music. We don't hear that very often. :lol2
I think I might be testing you on the next Diamond Peak vid though.

I wish that was the case, however, the track was full of large mud puddles.
We kind of tip-toed our way through it.:lol3

I totally agree with you, the recent freak show is kind of meh!

    Day 5 continued

After getting fuel in Spring Creek we were heading south, through Jiggs, to the Ruby Mountains.

The Ruby Crest Trail was great!

The roads were super flowy and fun.

Does anyone else see a sitting Sleestak in that rock formation? Or is it just me?

With all the rain Nevada's been getting, we saw a lot of water damaged roads on this ride.

The end of the road on Ruby Mountain.

We were at 8250' and the views were spectacular!

Dropping down the backside of the mountain into Ruby Valley.

It was nice to have some torn up roads to keep things interesting.

There is a bunch more to explore in the Ruby Mountains...we only scratched the surface.

    Outstanding Matt!
The thought of being the tallest thing on the prairie during a lightning storm probably freaked you out a bit.

I thought there would be more SPOT pings showing his ride, but they didn't show up :dirtdog
You know, what goes on in Wells stays in Wells...

Oh, and speaking of bunny ranches...err I mean BUNNIES, you know I would never eat your bunny Kelly although according to this here placard bunnies led to the demise of poor defenseless Metropolis! ...They never stood a chance...

    P.S. I see the sleestak

    Day 5 continued

After reaching the Ruby Valley floor, we had a fast gravel road along Ruby lake. It's not so much a lake as it is a watershed or marsh.
We were looking for a place to bathe, so we were a little disappointed.

After Ruby Lake, we headed west on NF 112 towards Diamond Peak. This was the section I was most looking forward to on this trip.
The pictures I had seen of it made it look impossibly steep, so I was very curious to see if we would have any trouble getting up it.

The beginning of the climb was a bit more overgrown than I anticipated.

This was getting really exciting, we were climbing 3200' in 4.5 miles.

It was a touch loose under the tall grasses, but nothing to be concerned about.

    Wait for it...

Our first view of the top. :thumb

There it is, that's what we're looking for.
Well, to be fair I hadn't really told Bartek exactly what to expect.
I couldn't have him backing out, now could I?

This last bit does mess with your head a little.

    Going Up?

This section was better than I ever imagined, 360° views that took our breath away.

    Bartek is Stoked! :wings

We are at 9200' in Nevada and are loving it! :clap

The ride down the backside is just as good as the climb.

I sure hope seeing this inspires some of you to come out to Nevada and check it out.
    The riding is world class.

There were some switchbacks on the way down.

We finally ride through a forested canyon on the way out of the mountains

    Looking back at Diamond Peak.

It was getting late as we rolled into Eureka.

We enjoyed a meal at the Owl Club that matched our day of riding -- Awesome!

Prime Rib with Yorkshire pudding. What a day we were having! :dukegirl

We rode to the outskirts of Eureka and set up the roach motel on the side of the road, over looking the lights of Eureka.
Enjoyed a couple cold beers and hit the hay.

    Hi Scott! :wave
Oh, I know. Even if you wanted to eat this bunny, he's 10 years old and would probably be stringy and tough. :lol3
Gratuitous critter pic for Ladybug :D:

I was reading a little more about Metropolis and their rabbit woes were pretty bad. All their wheat crops, devoured by bunnies.
One man was quoted as saying, "If you killed one thousand jackrabbits, ten thousand would show up for the funeral."
Also, all the slaughtered rabbits were shipped to San Francisco, where they were served in fancy restaurants as "Nevada Hare."

Having seen the destruction wrought by one tiny 4 pound bunny, I can only imagine what thousands and thousands could do. :eekers
    You're right, Metropolis didn't stand a chance.

    Okey dokey.
Here are the SPOT maps for Diamond Peak. This one's pretty cool looking.

Matt said there was some guy racing around out there in the dark. Maybe practicing for Dakar??

You found the Diamonds! We've only ridden that west to east and wondered how it would be the opposite direction - especially on those beasts. Well, done!

    Indeed!
That's a great part of Nevada.
My favorite camping spot is in that area.
I'll have to go back and do more exploring.

Great Ride Report Big Wan. Keep it coming.

Hey, are all the trails you rode on national forest roads, or what?

And also, love the pic of the bunny, we've had 5 or 6, they are pretty fun pets especially when all the dogs, cats, bunnys and birds get along.

Going up that mountain looks bad enough but coming down would give me the heebee Jeebees.....It would be worth it though to see that view. WOW it looks incredible.

Bunny picture is much appreciated, I like critters especially when the critter is part of the Wan family FurWan ?
