    brand new engine I believe. The NC engine is derived from the Honda Jazz car, too heavy for this bike.

    I think you're misinterpreting the comments. I agree it is a new 1000cc engine, just that the cutaway pic above is that of the NC, and is falsely being used as the new CRF motor.
    The MCN article used that photo. It's not part of the Honda press release.

    Probably like the VFR1200 muffler. Flapper valve inside, low RPM using strictly the smaller exit, high rpm using both.
