Great report! I live in Alto, just outside of Ruidoso, so I have ridden many of the trails that you showed. Did the CDR a couple of years ago on the KLR, but just traded it in on a new 1190 Adventyure, and was thinking about where I should break it in. This looks like the perfect ride for that!
Where did you guys get to during the huge storm? I found a great camp site and hid under a tree for about an hour before the rain let up. I kept expecting you guys to roll around the slippery, nasty slop any minute, but alas....
Nice to meet you and hope you made it home safely. I finally have made it home and completed all the rides. Trying to organize 4 trillion pics, and should be able to start a couple of RR's soon. Stay tuned.
Thanks Ron. Yep, the 1190 is truly in its element on this ride. Enjoy!
We got lucky and didn't get the rain you did. Probably only 45 min behind you. Did have some brief squalls but not too bad. Camped just off hwy 50 at a little pull out. Right on the river with a nice shelter and pit toilet. Very cold the next morning though.
Looking forward to seeing some photos from you. We head out on the NMBDR Saturday. Another massive group and 9 days allowed. Nice and fun and slower paced...:)
Beers and cheers, Atom...
Have a great time on the NMBDR - I'm sure you will have some good stories. Good luck!
Great job on documenting the ride, I'm going this weekend, starting in T or C to Antonito.
Fantastic RR. BTW, what camera were you using for the photo's? Nearly seems like it was part of your helmet setup. thx
Thanks trailrider77. It was a fun ride. I used a Sena 10c for most of the riding shots, as well as a Sony a6000 for some of the better quality shots. The Sony is much more capable than I am of using it!
Spent a nice couple of hours on the back patio enjoying the pics and reading this. Thanks for posting this up!
Wonderful and inspiring report....Thanks!
Very Inspiring, Thank You for a beautiful RR.
You wrote that you might post up your travel gear at the end of the RR, but I do not see it? May I request it, please? I would very much like to see what you carry. Yes, it looked light to me, too.
Great report and resource for considering this ride in the fall. Will take that long to prep the bike after this corona is done.
Thank you for the great ride report. Will be riding it this year.
Tadd when were you planning to ride this? I am looking at mid September.
With everything going on its so hard to know at this time. I was planning on June before it gets to hot in NM. I'm retired and flexible. I have another ride planned starting starting Sep 26th for two weeks. Are you looking for someone to ride with?
I think I have a buddy to ride with now. I am going to take 15-30SEP off to do it. Give me time to get a couple things done to the Airhead before hand. Can’t even do anything with until I can get back to the house for a couple weekends. I have a backup bike also.
Me and Tragic Overlander have ridden together quite a bit and I wanted to brag on my buddy a bit.
Hope he don't mind.
It was the year Dave did this ride he also did:
Sound impossible ???? He did it. Same bike------it was trashed.
I did this ride right before he did---but we hadn't met yet.
Didn't he ride nonstop from CO to Union Pass WY Just to stand under a tarp in the rain and bs with you and then go home in the morning?
