I have a fair amount of NM trail and dualsport ride videos (AtomicGeo Ride Videos) that cover various areas of the state (and other areas). I thought it would be great to have thread with reports, pics, or vids of NM ONLY that showcase what there is to ride.

Here is a one from a recent ride to kick things off:

New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route (NMBDR)

Here's the beginning of a series of vids in the NM backcountry. Over 1000 miles in late June. :knary

I think you were a week or two behind us on that trip. I could not believe how dry it was, especially in the Gila. We need to get out and ride together again. Keep the videos coming.

The southern most section was the least scenic IMO. Next section is in the forest between Pinon and Cloudcroft, still Day 1. We rode all the way in from El Paso to Cloudcroft on the first day, well over 300 miles.

You interested in doing my Kiowa lookout tower loop ride? It's about 140 miles in the Carson NF.

When is it? Do you leave from Ojo Caliente? I have been out in that area before but it has been a long time ago.

Not scheduled. But we can work around the various rides this time of year. I am thinking mid- or late-Sept. Yes, we would start and end in Ojo.

Thanks for posting. I've been pipe dreaming about packing up and heading west to do some of NMBDR. June must have been crazy hot.

Thanks. We rode the last week of June. Hot in the "lower" elevations. It was 105 Deg on the end of the second day when we rolled into TorC, NM. Best to start early 7AM that time of year, and it also avoids the monsoons that start up in July.

Next vid: Day 2 - Land of Smokey Bear on deck.

    sub'd.

I've seen the mud videos. I'd rather deal with the heat, but man 105 is up there.

I see in your sig that you're from DFW area. That's where I had to drive to to pick up my plated WR450F a few years back. I bought off a regional Yamaha sales rep who had it new then decided he didn't want it. A plate on a WR450F is gold. Anyway, it was hot and humid when I was out there.

Yeah the lack of any topography brings everyone else's weather here. Hazy, Humid, Dry and Windy.

I'm not sure how they plate dirt bikes around here, but i've seen a few on craigslist.

Day 2: Cloudcroft to Carrizozo - Land of Smokey Bear

At the end of Day 1 when we rolled into Cloudcroft, I noticed I had a torn rear tire that put a thorn into our plans for Day 2. It was a tear in the tire between the rear wheel treads I was lucky it didn't blow during riding:

We decided (with some luck) that a moto shop in nearby Alamogordo would be open to replace the rear tire. Day 2 morning we were there at 9AM:

We get there and see the typical NM store "-ish" sign :ace:

I was lucky :rayof. The shop owner there was great. First in line and I got out of there in 1-hr. So our Day 2 detours a little thru Alamogordo then Tularosa on US Hwy 70 before we hook back up with the NMBDR on our way to the Mescalero Reservation.

Day 2: Carrizozo to Truth or Consequences - Jornada del Muerto

This section of the route (green section in the map below) was the reintroduction back into the desert after riding mostly mountains. It was late June, hot and dry....above 100 Deg.

The video is appropriately labeled as the Jornada del Muerto with long flat stretches of dirt roads around the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) into Truth or Consequences for the night.
