Bas - do you plan to try another sample of this unit? I am looking for a smaller bean can to fit under a points type front cover (/7) with the smaller cavity. We may just cut down a stock unit and get an E.I. control unit for external ignition advance.

I will try another one but the guy I need at the dealer was on a holiday. So I will have to wait.
When I get the new one I will report back.

With Rick's beancan (probably just a rebadged EI) my advance marks were off, so I went back to the OEM beancan. Oh well saved money and timing is spot on now, I'll just rework a spare beancan when one of them goes out. Just not worth the hassle checking something which is supposed to work like the factory unit.

Mounted the new unit today and it did the same thing as the first one. The bike just randomly stalling.
Just to be sure it wasn't a problem on my bike we tried it on an other bike too. That bike had problems with surging al low revs. The new beacon totally fixed that but it was also cutting out. So the units are not good (yet).

Thank you Bas, I was going to fit one on my new engine in my 100GS but it's obviously not right yet. I've got an early EI one on my R80 G/S and it performs excellently starts better and is more lively but I haven't checked the timing I've just set it to how it runs best which is how I set most things. I do all my carbs by ear, can't do them any other way I'm afraid.

Dang, I was hoping this shiny new part was going to be a sure thing. At least the motorrad elektrik alpha unit is still a viable option.

A new expensive Bosch part that doesn't work? Wouldn't that be enough for Bosch to stop distribution until the units were rectified and known to be good?

You know, it's probably low tire pressure.

I mounted this new part today on my G/S (with the Kraftpaket) and drove 1.5 hours. No problems so far. The bike feels very strong, even more direct on the throttle than before. It runs better with this ignition sensor. A lot of power and no pinging.

Let's hope I don't encounter the problems Bas describes here.

BMW supplies this hallsensor since 2015.

Does the advance curve appear similar to stock? Did they supply a different ICU, or is the advance in the beancan?
