I should be content. I have a BMW G650 X-Challenge adventure bike that is totally tried and tested but has 150,000 km on the clock and is feeling a bit tired ... but thats OK, because I bought a mint condition very low mileage second hand X-Country last year as a donor bike and am currently transferring the frame and engine over to the soon to be revitalised X-Challenge.

On top of that, I inherited a Husaberg 570 when I came down from the Andes Moto Extreme project and Husaberg decided they didnt want to exist anymore. I had (and still have) plans to turn it into an excellent light weight adventure bike. I have been collecting the increasingly hard to get parts for that project over the last year or so. I still dont have all the bits I need and the bike continues to await its fate.

Where are we now? ... as they say in the classics, the correct number of motorcycles you need in your stable is n+1, where n = the current number of bikes you have.

So I did some thinking, and talking ... you see I had been thinking about building up a KTM 690 with the full Basel kit for many years. I like the way the kit is put together. Its as faithful as possible to the elegant and stylish factory KTM rally bikes that I have seen in a kit, and I have always like the KTM 690 and 450 Rally Factory Replica lines. I simply hadnt pulled the trigger on it yet because I wasnt doing any big rides in the last couple of years and so there was no urgency ... nothing compelling me to act now.

And then something happened that compelled me to act... and before I knew it, I was ordering parts ...

This should be good. So what's the new planned ride to warrant the new bike?

Nice pick up Walter. I just bought a 690 last week myself to replace my X Challenge that was stolen a couple years ago before I even made it out of NYC with it. Looking forward to this build.
