http://www.swm-motorcycles.it/eng/Superdual650.html Weight 324 lbs/147kg Revitalised with chinese power, the old italian sports brand SWM with Husky-Engine. Production start: spring 2015 Welcome SWM
Pics of these TE630 clones have been floating around for a while (over a year, I think)... I read somewhere that they are building some of the pre-BMW Huskies like this one.
So Pierer sold the old Husky motors to SWM? You can bet that a true dual-sport version will appear asap http://www.swm-motorcycles.it/eng/enduro.html I like the looks of this one http://www.swm-motorcycles.it/eng/GranMilano440S.html What's the deal with this motor? Is that a XR400 clone motor? Looks like Chinese Shineray is the $ backer & SR had this bike shown http://www.bikeexif.com/swm-moto http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=933937 This is how China Inc. mfg will move forward with market share and better products in the future, buying newer and newer "old-model" motor designs. Chinese mfg can and does put out very high quality product if the directive is there. ...still wondering will we ever see that Husky massaged TR650 BMW motor in another bike? I assume BMW has the rights for the full modified version and will a performance G650 appear one day? BMW's better Sertao(Dakar) version has gone away for 2015 so either it was not selling or something new is in the pipeline. BMW has been milking that F650 parts build bike for ever now and it needs better suspension and lighter parts asap. The X models accomplished that and then just as fast BMW pulled them. Odd company!
Husky SMR 630 clone with a 19" front wheel, the TE's had close to 13" of rear wheel suspension travel.
The Silver Vase looks like a modern Victor 441 dez sled. I haven't even healed from those injuries yet, and now the Chinese are making another?
I don't think we will see a Chinese clone of the BMW/Rotax 650 engine in the near future. BMW still has a right to that engine design and unlikely will give it up as long as they have a model that uses it. The Chinese have been cloning old air cooled Honda engines for years for internal use only. When Pierer bought Husqvarna, he didn't get the right to the BMW engine. Loncin was/is the manufacture and can only sell to BMW or use internally for their own use. They have a motorcycle using it now, but only sold in China. It seems to me that BMW is no longer interested in the 650 class of bikes. They stopped production once and when they restarted the models were short lived. Loncin has a production line for the F800 engine, but not manufacturing/ assembling any. As long as they do that for a major manufacturer under their label, quality standards should be OK. Doing it for some start up company could be a different story.
i agree that the RS500R is awesome. I just emailed the company asking if they had plans to import to the States.
Every dealer I've talked to has said the X-bikes just didn't sell. Buyers were far more enthused by the larger GS bikes. BMW doesn't seem to effectively communicate the proper uses for each model. Probably because they're happier selling the more expensive bikes.
received email from the manufact. said dealer network being set up and bikes should be avail late sept 2015. we shall see.....
They just didn't give the X bikes a chance. A X Challenge Adventure would kill today. It seems like there's a big enough market for a 650 with a good sized tank, decent suspension, etc. Until a bike like that comes out, I guess we are stuck with $7k-11k thumpers that we have to invest another $5k into to build THAT bike.
They didn't stop to think that the world economy was largely in the crapper then? Suzuki didn't even import a lot of models to the US when the economy was faltering. Suzuki basically skipped a model year here. BMW bringing back an older model (G650GS) makes no sense to me when they've already done the R&D and started production on the newer G650X bikes. Throw a normal shock into the XChallenge and it could have been a contender.
