Being thrifty I am looking at the current (not the upcoming) version. $309 on ebay, TOMTOM is offering a $50 rebate so it nets out at $260. Thinking this may be the "value" choice.
Be careful with rebates an ebay. A lot of times you are required to purchase units from from authorized dealers and provide sales recites. Even if a seller is authorized to sell TomTom, an ebay sale may not be considered an 'authorized' transaction. There could also be warranty issues if you purchase from Ebay. Checking with TomTom first may save you disappointment later. One example is Sena. You can buy them on ebay and amazon. Sena treats an Amazon sale from Amazon as an authorized transaction. Ebay ... not so much and there could be issues getting warranty issues resolved.
You get what you pay for, as the saying goes. There's a reason they are releasing a new model. If you can live with/out the features it has then it may just be the right choice. Otherwise you may want to wait a month and see how the new model stacks up against the older version(s).
I was actually on stand with TomTom for the world premiere showing of this unit, at the norwegian motorcycle faire, and although the unit we had there was pre-production and had some bugs to iron out, the unit seemed solid, sleek, well designed and with a long overdue upgrade of the visual appearance. Incredible value compared to Garmin imho.
That's interesting. No pre-release Eval units? No reviews that I can find. The TomTom website doesn't have it on the Moto page - still showing the "old" version.
I'd say the price point is good but value is dependent upon function not looks in this case. Since we don't have any data on how well it works, at this point I'd say it has no value. Which is to bad. I'm still perplexed as to why TomTom didn't provide some production-level Eval units.
I'm waiting for the Premium pack to be released mainly for the antitheft adapter thing. Seems like a good solution to not have to take the GPS off when you go and pay for fuel. Motolegends have it priced £80 over the regular Rider 400.
I picked mine up yesterday but haven't mounted it on the bike yet (tiger 800) as I'm not happy with the ram mount supplied with it. I'm going to order a SW Motec mount so I can have it above the clocks. First impressions are good though, will report back when I tried it out properly.
Mine arrived today. Just had time to connect it to the computer and do the update but not much else. Will have more time to play in a few days. The RAM mount seems quite bulky. You can tell which bits were made by TomTom and which bits by RAM without even knowing. I'm surprised there isn't a seal on the back of the mount where it bolts to th RAM fixing and I may make something to fit. However, it's all conjecture at the moment until I can have a thorough look at it all
I notes in the video that when it was sunnier when he was in town you could not read the screen all that was visible was the reflections of the buildings dose that mean it is great on dull days but useless in the sun same as my crappy NAVMAN the difference is the NAVMAN only cost $140
