    Hi Mark
Hey it was good talking to you too. Small world haha. Nice bike too. I’ve thought about getting a multistrada for a few years just haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet. Need to sell a bike or two first, (I have 4 now).
Gold river was nice as was the logging road to Woss. Back in Washington now, getting ready to hike the 93 mile wonderland trail in Rainier National Park. I ended up doing about 1800km on the island. Beautiful place!

Hung out in Seattle at a friends house for a few days. Needed to relax and let my calves get back to normal after the hike in MT. Got to play with the Chulanator for a bit.

    Day 47 8/29/19

Time to head to Canada for round #3.
I rode up to Anacortes to get on the 230pm ferry to Sydney, BC. Showed up about 2pm and had no issues getting on. $34.25 for me and the bike. About 2.5hrs for the ride. Couple other bikes going back home to the island. Mostly cars though on board.

They had a street fair going on in Sydney so walked around there for a bit. Was going to go to Butchhart gardens but it was like $34 to get in so skipped it.

Went down the south coast and found a logging road to camp on. Maybe around- 48.47855, -124.197502

Got up and kept riding down highway 14 to Port Renfrew. Stopped for breakfast and talked a to few other bikers there. 907Duc was out on his Multistrada. Good talking to you Mark!
Went a few miles down the road to Botanical Beach Provincial Park. Hiked around the beach for a few hours. The west coast trail ends here. It’s a 47km hiking trail along the coast. I though about doing it but did it have my overnight backpack and would have to hitchhike one way to get back to my bike so I didn’t do it.

After that went back to Port Renfrew and headed north to Cowichan Lake. Took the dirt road to Caycuse instead of the pavement to honeymoon bay on the south end of the lake.

Looks like you had a good visit, Botanical Beach is amazing at low tide. Lots to see and do on the island, ancient rainforest, twisty roads paved and otherwise. The KTM seemed the perfect weapon for the trip, glad you had fun.

Left my camp by Alberni and went down to Tolfino. You drive through Pacific Rim National Park reserve on the way in. Very scenic. Lots of people on Tolfino. Definitely one of the more touristy towns I saw there.

Didnt quite make it past the lake before dark. There was logging going on so they had the gates locked. And rocks in the road. And a big tree. Thankfully I can take the bike through the ditch. I could have gotten my 701 enduro around them but the 990 is a substantially larger.

I pushed the bike through the ditch here under this tree. There was a logging machine right next to it on the other side on in an active logging area.

I camped in an old logging area outside Cumberland. Went for a morning run through the trees on a hiking trail nearby. Had some breakfast at Timmy H’s in Courtenay. Got some wd-40 for my chain at Canada tire and hit the road towards the beach. Took 19a Highway up to Campbell River.

I stopped by Elk falls provincial park outside Campbell River. Cool place to see. You can hike down through the trees to see the falls and go for a loop through the trees by the river on foot.

Took dirt roads from gold river to Woss on highway 19, which was really good as well and continued into Port Hardy for some dinner then rode out of town to camp.

    Day 51 9/2/19

So i camped down a logging road outside of port hardy. Went for a morning run with my bear spray. Saw one black bear on my way back. He wasn’t walking up the trail towards me. I threw some rocks at him until he ran off the road. He must have been an older bear because he never looked at me when I yelled, he just kept walking towards me. One of the rocks rolled into him and he swatted at it though. Then got off the road. I would have taken a pic but didn’t have my phone. Thankfully he didn’t get into my tent. I had a few snacks in there.

Packed up my tent and rode into town for a late breakfast. Walked along the beach as the fog rolled in. C4457DAE-3D99-4057-9849-C311F8E37107.jpeg

Stopped at marble river provincial park and did a 7-8 mile hike through the trees along the river. I guess a hurricane came through many years ago and blew down a bunch of big trees. It was an easy hike. Good trail through the giant trees.
