Yup. The trouble is getting from Globe to the border in the remaining 2 days...and I don’t see hotel options between Globe and Young.

I don't believe there is a motel in Winona. We had to detour about 12 miles to Flagstaff to get rooms.
Cameron fills up fast. Make reservations asap.

I can't remember seeing motels in either Benson or Young. But we weren't looking.

We stayed in Heber a couple of times. It is a ways off the BDR though. There was another group doing the BDR staying there too.

There are a couple places in Young but you'd better get there before sundown. Once the sun goes down, the town rolls up. No food, no inn keepers. We stayed at Pleasant Valley inn. It was acceptable for a "pull in and crash" place. The lady was nice, but didn't have any food. We boiled up some water for our packed meals.

I would definitely detour over to Flag, just to eat at Nomads Global Lounge.

It's attached to DuBeau Hostel, which isn't really a hostel (it's an old motor hotel) but it is cheap and clean and walking distance to everything.

MartAnnes Burrito Palace has great breakfasts.

Look up Rosevelt lake resort. It is a really cool hotel/ RV park right on the lake between globe and young. from there you can stay at kohl's ranch lodge which is after young on highway 260 about 10 miles from the route.

    Nwemerys,

Some suggestions would be to reroute to Young on 188 then on 288 which is mostly dirt, but very scenic. BDR website also has a reroute to avoid the washed out FR south of Young. Might be FR 202.

N of Benson should be fine, but watch your speed some sandy sections of road pop up unexpectedly.

Grey Mt truck road will be tough going up. l in one section it was all large rock on a hill, but I haven’t been up there this year.

There are so many other dirt roads, don’t worry about not following the published route to the letter. Making the route your own BDR can lead to some great discoveries and make it unique to your group.

Would be glad to help you with the northern sections but will be with AZ Thumper in S. Utah starting on the 4th.

If you have any questions or concerns before that send me a PM.

Have a blast on the ride!

Only gates I saw closed today were those around the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, and they are not on the route.

On the section from Winona to Cameron it looks like it traverses Navajo Reservation Tribal lands via Grey Mountain but I can't get the travel permit until I get to Cameron. Are there any issues with traversing the Grey Mountain Truck route without the travel permit?

    Thanks.

You only need the permit if your going to get off the roads or camp.

Take Leupp north out of Winona get on Bia 70, go past Gran Falls & get on Bia6730. Comes out just north of Cameron on 89. Stay on main roads on Res. no problem.

Looks like a great route on the map. It doesn't appear to be a part of the "official" AZBDR that goes via Grey Mountain but it looks like it would be a beautiful ride. Thanks for the info.

For those who have ridden this BDR to the Utah border, is it easy to just continue north on the same road/track to pick up Hwy 89 to Page. Or perhaps there is a better way to get to Page from the end?
    Thanks.
