Thanks, looking forward to this trip. Leave Thursday for Sierra Vista, then begin the route north for 5 days.

If there are any novice riders in your group (assuming you're in a group) there is a PITA section of deep pumice sand that starts about 20 miles or so north of Winona. It could be avoided by having the novice rider take the pavement from Winona to where the route crosses hwy 89 and meeting you there. Just a thought.

Yes, it spits you right out onto HWY 89, we rode it all last week. Be aware that some of the ruts on that stretch of BLM road are brutal & on some blind corners.

How did you find the work-a-rounds to be north of Soinita? That area has been a mystery to me.

It was fun. We followed the current GPS tracks, riding was fast. Knowing now where it exits onto slab, we would have spent another night in Tombstone. Our group was wondering if the more technical sand section were still an option, we never found a way to access them.

Nwemerys and me are in Benson tonight on on the AZBDR. One day into trip and I have 690 problems, looking for help from the collective wisdom if anyone is looking tonight or early am. My 2012 690 has the evo 1 fuel tanks with an in line Golan fuel filter. Riding today, the bike chugged and alternatively reved at expected rpms and then died over a hilly, rocky section that is the alternative route from Sonaita to Benson. Must have died 12 times in a couple of miles. THEN, it ran fine all the way back to Benson. Bike has 1600 miles, fuel pump has been replace with new 400 miles ago. Bike idles fine, even when it was stalling out. Oh and by the way, it has a Rekluse (stated but assume has no bearing).

Looking for any insights before we head to the more remote next section out of Benson in the am.

    Thanks!

Do you have the ability yo clean the injector? We just spend a lot of time with similar issues on a 690 and it was a clogged injector.

Thanks, we had considered. The injector was cleaned 400 mi ago, not that it couldn't have clogged since. We also looked at venting. The rear (main) vent may be the issue, so we will play with that approach. Like I said earlier, odd that the bike runs fine for a long time and then the stall symptom appears. Will post an update.

I’d think tank venting or the in tank filter either clogged or cracked. Good luck

Never did figure out the bike stalling issue but he also had some bad luck with his heat shield. Maybe the screws vibrated loose?? but the whole thing broke off leaving 2 jagged holes in the exhaust pipe. Repaired with quicksteel and coke cans which lasted from Young back to Scottsdale. We will tackle the remaining sections later.

We are starting the route on Sunday, any locals have any advice, weather, conditions, must sees, etc.? Looks like a good chance of rain from the start to Benson, which is exactly how our COBDR started last September! ‍Thanks in advance!

Take the Empire Ranch tour, really interesting. Watch out for the Mojave’s though. Grab lunch at the Brewery Brothel in Sonoita. Run by ladies and is wonderful. Pedro’s Steak house in Benson is good and a fun hole in the wall place...clean as can be. The tortilla factory in Mammoth is a great breakfast or lunch.

The ride after Empire Ranch is a bit rocky and rough. Fun though.
