One long day of riding in the rain (WABDR) killed MX helmets for me. I tried a scorpion modular the next two trips (IDBDR and ORBDR) and loved being able to pop it open when we stopped on 100 degree days, but hated when the locking mechanism got jammed up with dirt.

My last two trips (Canada and ORBDR) I’ve used a Shoei Hornet X2 and love it. I ride with the visor open with sunglasses on 90% of the time. For long highway slogs or rainy days the shield is invaluable. For dusty riding I pop up the face shield and throw on my goggles.
    Good luck!

I am from southern NM and my plan is to ride the IDBDR starting last week of July. I am 70 and in fair shape but all my old riding buddies are hanging it up. The younger guys I ride with can't get the time off from work to spend 2 or more weeks going north and back. I haven't been able to get the desert racer locals interested in this type of stuff either. Long story I am looking for one or two riders to join up with. Dirt rider most of my life but definitely slowing down. Want to enjoy not race. I am expecting to camp most nights but not a problem to motel if available. If this interests you let me know. Thanks in advance.

Late July is a little ways off, but good timing to do the IDBDR. Pay attention to this thread and you should be able to hook up with someone. At 70 you would've been the 2nd youngest in our group last year.

Thanks for the encouragement. Timewise I am trying to avoid snow. My son and I rode up Cumberland Pass in Colorado too early one spring. Made the summit but a huge snow drift on the way down to Tincup stopped us.

I ride...I believe we will have a small group heading north to south starting around the 20th or 21st....we might not do a purist through of the entire trail
, but end end up looping back up to Kalispel via a yet to be undetermined route. Looking to maximize the views. Feel free to pM me closer to the time and i'll give you our itinerary if you want to tag along for any of it...probably be 2-4 of us...will know more the closer we get to 'game time'.

My son lives in Reno and I will be there and then head to Jarbridge to start North. Thanks for the offer. Maybe we'll meet in the middle.

Making up tracks for Idaho later this summer.

Does anyone know if the Elk City to Selway River run via Falls Point Road is now open? I was on it two years ago and there was a big slide that had the road closed, just a few miles from the Selway.

    Thanks in advance!
