My son had the 1100r and I had the 850r.
I was always gobsmacked by the classic black with a white handprinted pinstripe on the tank.

My first Iron Butt was on the 850 with only a bikini windshield. So many good memories.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really interested in going to tube bars since the factory ones work OK for me. Remember I am selling this when I am done, so it doesn't make sense to personalize it just for me, especially since it wont fetch much when done.

I've only ridden an R1100R once before. It is a fun and nimble bike, with plenty of power and good handling. :thumb

Keep an eye on it for March 2019 or so. :-)

    • I’ve only known one other guy with the 850r. We both thought it was the smoothest running boxer BMW ever made. Gawd I’d love to see a new r850GSA. Never gonna happen though.
    • That 850 took me 2 up with a girlfriend over all the Colorado passes at 90 mph with bags. It mostly kept up with the 1100 because the gearing was a little shorter.

The problem with the 850 was the cost point to build. It cost just as much as an 1100 or 1150 to build. I have only seen one 850 in the wild in my life.

Yeh, it was a Euro market bike. Euro's tend to like bikes under a Liter due to insurance consequences. These didn't sell over here cause you might not be a real man on something under a liter. It was a wonderful fantastic dream machine until I ran it into the shoulder of a whitetail deer on Lolo Pass. Neither the deer nor the bike survived. Li'l Blue gladly have her life to save me from the killer deer.

I really think that 1100R is the perfect 'modern' home for the traditional black paint with a white pin stripe. But I think I'm in a minority on that.

It is a mess. Almost all of the wire covering is gone.

When I rebuilt the harness on my K, I used the TESA Cloth tape. I like it better than any of the shiny tape varieties.

I considered cloth tape, and decided to use split loom for simplicity, and the ability to go back in and fix things, or add wires for accessories.

Yup. It works too, in so much as the lights go out after the kerchunk at 3mph. The bad clutch makes it too unsafe to take on the road.

    Your imagination.
It's handy if you can access the loom.

If I'm building a loom from scratch I'll use the correct sized plastic sleeves for a factory appearance. I've got both styles.

Definitely, if building from scratch, I would go with sleeves. But with connectors already on, split loom or tape are better options. I may tape the large loom since split wouldn't work well either in the confines it has.

FR700, where can I get that? My supplies are running low and I haven't found a good place to buy it in bulk.
