The winds on I-90 were some of the worst I've ever experienced. One gust nearly blew my goggles off my helmet! That wind was blowing the smoke from the wildfires into the Missoula valley. It was quick thick upon my arrival.

I knew early on that I was having some fork seal problems. That was easily verified by the oil lubricating my front brake pads. Those brakes, they just end up slowing you down anyway.

Back at the campsite, I quickly removed the ailing fork with high hopes that the local KTM dealer would swap out the seal for me on Monday.

Thanks to BIG SKY KTM/BMW/Kawasaki for fixing me up today!

I replaced the chain and sprockets before I left. I didn't want to have to bother with it while I was on the road. Apparently, I should have done the fork seals before I left too.

Not that I'm going back, but my comments may leave you with the impression that Banff was all bad. It's not, there one thing that I really liked about Banff.

But you have to go on a Tuesday night.

    The food is delicious!

I was chilling at the Sportmans Warehouse in Missoula when I spotted a retractor priced at $4.99! I've been thinking about getting one of these for my ride camera for a while, but the scuba ones I'm familar with are like $25-$30, too rich for my -get destroyed on the bike- budget. $5 I won't mind trashing.

    Here's the little fella

I like to take pictures while I'm on the move. I have an extra long lanyard on the camera that I clip into my tank bag, but I was wanting for more play without more cord flapping around in the wind or getting caught in brush. I'm real happy with the new setup!

To test out my new camera rig, I set out on an easy 125 mile loop from Missoula to Wagon Mountain Road.

    Tracklog and maps at:

    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258475

This would be an excellent loop for a rookie, or a GS/Tiger/Buell looking for a fun easy day.

    First stop Fish Creek.

    Bridge over Fish Creek.

Fish Creek Road. Started as thick gravel and washboard eventually turned into just washboard.

On the left is the road to Wagon Mt Road.

This road climbed quickly out of the valley. Looking back down.

    Lookup up.

    Almost at the top.

    Wagon Mountain Road intersection.

Shots along Wagon Mountain Road. The logging company, Plum Creek, has stripped many of the hill sides clean. There were logging roads heading off in all directions, some had barricades, many did not.

As I traveled east, smoke from the many wildfires filled the skies.

All good things must come to an end, and here I am at Petty Creek Road.

Petty Creek is pretty much a two lane gravel highway.

It was only 10:30 when I reached route 12 and that's just way early to end the day. I checked my Lolo National Forest map and found some roads open to motorized vehicles on the south side of route 12 not far from the Petty Creek intersection. Away I went.

Entre at the Earl Tennant Rec. Site.

Again the road climbs quickly, switch backing up the side of the mountain.

View from the top. Route 12 is at the bottom of the far mountain.

    Thick forest along the road.

I got to this real confusing 5 way intersection. I took what looked to be the more interesting route.

Took me to this quarry on the top of the mountain, odd, very odd indeed.

Lots of fun on this easy road.

Intersection of 451. Only 3 miles from Idaho. My map said that there was a road straight ahead, looked more like an ATV trail. I opted for route 12.

451 is another two lane gravel highway.

I was back to the campsite in 4 hours and 125 easy miles.

I'm at Grand Coulee Dam right now, please don't alert security, HA!

Off to Seattle on Tuesday until Sunday. Then 4 more weeks of Washington, moving around from week to week. I hope to get a some sunny days.

I won't be down to the Columbia river until Sept 23-29.

    Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn!

Thanks a bunch for the invite Bob! I had planned to be in Medford for a week in October, but I let my wife talk me out of that (she gets everything she wants) and into heading back to PA for an extra week before heading to Key Largo.

That Medford area looks like an awesome place to own a motorcycle! I'll be at Oregon Dunes for a week and then in Klamath, CA for a week. Maybe we can put something together.

hey Nightstalker - so bizarre - I thought of you yesterday for some bizarre reason while riding the black 950 of Osteos through somewhere in Ontario on a goodly trail.

I hope to hear from you, I am also in Vancouver, Banff etc in this latter part of August and early September. Please shoot me a pm if we can meet up. Sweet mate, George

Hey, it's been too long with no word from you. I've been loving your posts, keep them coming. I have been getting entirely too much work done in your absence. You will be missed at the PB500 this year.
