NorCAL BMW 49er Rally at Mariposa, CA over Memorial Day weekend

Do you ride a BMW or have a friend who does? Then consider having fun with around 500 of other riders this Memorial Day weekend by joining us at the 2020 BMW Club of Northern California 49er Rally in Mariposa, CA.

This event has been going on for the 47 years and it just keeps getting better. Enjoy the gathering while you enroll in Men’s or Women’s GS Clinics, learn from multiple seminars, participate in both street and English Trials events, enjoy great food and beverages, watch the younger riders ride an obstacle course on 49cc minibikes, win prizes for multiple categories of riding, win money on the poker run, enjoy riding the Sierra passes and Yosemite, or just sit back and relax at Airhead Central or at the well-stocked Bier Garden. Be active, learn, and watch the fun.

Last year we added a Woman’s Only GS Clinic to great reviews and it’s back again and the Men’s GS Clinic has moved up a couple notches - both taught by teams of certified professional trainers. A program full of speakers/presentations this year will take you over the highest Himalayan pass in the world while another shows the thrill of adventure riding across Australia. Learn the history of some of BMW’s models and how design decisions were made from Tom Cutter, one of the original BMW Service Training Instructors. RKA will present the latest in electronics for the bike. Seminars from the instructors from Black Swan and learn your legal options from Russ Brown. And learn how to cook a 4 star meal from what you have packed in your saddlebag.

Saturday dinner this year was designed by a fantastic 4 star catering chef and the daily food options will give you great choices.

Grab one of the Day Ride Maps and head over 3 or 4 8500’+ Sierras Passes, spend a day in Yosemite if you leave early before the other tourists arrive, or visit the great vineyards in the Sierra foothills. Bring your 49cc bikes and participate in some fun field events. Or just have fun riding. Enjoy the Poker Run through the scenic Sierra foothills with a chance for great prizes for the best hands.

The GS Giants is always a spectator favorite just like the English Trials while the Field Events test your slow speed skills. A variety of raffle prizes are drawn every 2 hours over the weekend and winning the 50/50 raffle just might pay for your entire trip

Enjoy Airhead Central hosted with Tom Cutter, Saturday evening woman’s wine gathering, your favorite wine or beer at the Beir Garden, shop the multiple vendors, sell or buy stuff at the flea market, sample multiple food choices, enjoy the late night movies, and register for awards for solo and 2 up long distance, oldest and youngest male and female riders.

Plan your vacation around May 21-25, 2020 at the Mariposa, CA Fairgrounds and enjoy the ride.

Early Bird registration is $65 through April 15, then prereg is $80 until May 15th, and $95 at the door.
49er belt buckle included with the first 300 Early Bird registrations

Of all the events around our planned route to the Great Falls rally, this is the only one that coincides with our timeline! Glenlivet and I would love to join you, but I’m not seeing anything on your website yet. Got a link?

The registration isn't up yet because of a delay in a couple contracts which affect the price. Keep checking back to the BMWNORCAL website.

Crud, the page is now up but the dates are not what you listed above. May 21-25 would have been perfect for me. May 28-June 1 as shown on the NorCal website will find us well on our way up the Pacific coast

I’ve just altered plans to catch the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Can change them back if you cross your heart and pinkie promise that the dates are 21-25 May.

That ancient proverb, “May you live in interesting times” has come to roost around the world.

My motorcycle world seemed to compress it all into one day. First thing Wednesday morning was the email that the Quail Lodge Motorcycle Gathering scheduled the first of May was cancelled - I had 4 bikes entered. An hour later the Hillsborough Concourse D’Elegance in June was cancelled - 3 bikes entered. Then an email that the campgrounds at Death Valley closed so this month’s Club meeting is also cancelled.

Finally that night a conversation with the MOA National people who are still on the fence about the status of the Rally in June.

Nobody likes uncertainty but the way this is going, I’d say this year’s 49er isn’t going to happen. I wanted to wait until May 1 to make the decision but world and CA events appear to be forcing that time a lot closer. Unless a safe vaccine is out there in the next few weeks I would ask we pack up the work everyone has done so far and use that as a head start for next year.

On the positive side, since registration opened, we were averaging around 10 registrations a day from all over the country and a high percentage was first timers. But after the first virus announcement, it went to 0 registrations. It’s possible if the weather was good, the 49er might have touched almost 600. Let’s build on that for the 49th 49er in 2021
