One of the highlights of the riding year for me. Its basically a Rally with a different route and end location every day. Generally about 100-150 riders take part, and the route varies between 250 to 350 miles per day (you can make the distance shorter). Enough folks to make it fun, but not so many that your bumping into each other. You dont have to have a BMW to take part, but you do have to have a member sponsor you (just PM me) if you dont ride a Beemer. Most days have pre-ridden GS routes (nothing too challenging).

    Labor Day Weekend
    August 29 - September 1, 2008

It’s a traveling tour! Come on the best RIDING and CAMPING tour in the West. This year we’re starting at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, CA. Where we go after that is anybody’s guess. Keep watching this web page for the on-line entry form and the download entry form. They’re coming as soon as we establish the entry fee.

On Friday afternoon or evening you arrive at the starting point (Plymouth) with your camping gear; you sign in and receive the next day’s route sheet. You camp on grass for the night and showers are available.

On Saturday you load your gear on the trailer, and ride the Saturday route. Along the route you find answers to poker run questions. A catered meal, your gear, and the next day’s rout sheet await you at the destination. You camp on grass for the night and showers are available.

On Sunday you load your gear on the trailer, and ride the Sunday route. Along the route you find answers to poker run questions. A catered meal, your gear, and maybe some prizes await you at the destination. You camp on grass and showers are available. You ride home on Monday or just keep on riding.

The roads will be fun, sometimes very twisty, and several different kinds of beautiful. You’re probably going to see some roads that you’ve never seen before. There will be optional unpaved loops too. You don’t have to camp but lodging is on you. OK, you can show up on Saturday morning but make sure you get there before we leave.

We take soft bags only on the trailer. We can’t take hard bags.

Saturday and Sunday evening meals are included. They are not refundable. There will be many cafés and markets along the way for those other meals.

We’re using the same clear and readable route sheet format as last year.
T-Shirts can be ordered from the entry form (it’s coming) so we can get your size (M, L, XL, and XXL) and style (short sleeve or long sleeve). A few will be available for purchase at the rally but no guarantees.
Rally pins will be provided to the first 175 participants.

Keep watching the web page for the on-line entry form and the download entry form.

It was all NotBetty could talk about after the 49er this year. "Let's do the Gypsy Tour, Let's do the Gypsy Tour." How can I say no? :dunno

And Pins. Don't forget the rally pins. I got a matching set from the last 11 49er rallies (except 2001). Really nice. Goes with my new '08 49er shirt. I got a medium for the gun show.:lol3

    Richard Burton, the club Historian.

Richard is a top guy and takes great pride in his planning and preperation. His history 'lessons' on the week-end Norcal rides are highly entertaining.

This one is sure to be good.

The routes are kept secret, but I did manage to squeeze some info out of Richard at the 49er Rally, and all I will say is that its gunna be lotsa fun with lotsa climbing and twisties! :D

I talked with Richard about this year's Gypsy Tour at the Rally as well and he was very enthusiatic about the ride. You have to give him an A+++ for effort and planning. This is the earliest I can remember being able to buy a T-shirt and having the routes done for the event. The conversions I usually have at the 49'er are related to wondering if they can find someone to step up and chair the event and would my BMW club be interested in helping develop the routes. The chairs for the GT the last few years have taken really positive steps to make this the great event it historically has been.

This will be my 14th consecutive GT, I haven't missed one since I first attended. It is just a great event. If you like riding great roads and camping in nice places with catered dinners it doesn't get any better than this. The fact that the Madd Britt is there to entertain you is just icing on the cake.

I got a medium once. She told me I was going to meet the perfect woman.
My last g/f had it all except the flat head. Close.

The more I read about this ride, the better it looks. Those Norcal beemer dudes really know how to put together a great time.
