Alright, let’s have some fun following and seeing how this year’s motos do at the NORRA Mexican 1000. Any and all content related to NORRA, particularly this year’s NORRA and the moto pilots is welcome here. I’ll attempt to get this started and with luck keep it rolling. Maybe we can find out a little more about these crazy people who race Baja on a motorcycle and learn how they do it. Is there just insanity within or what!

    Here is the race schedule:

OK! here's a start on who to watch:

    Inmates:
Number - Inmate handle – Pilot(s) - Driver of record home town - Moto –

    17 - Cleophus James, desertbrp - John Conyer, Andrew Brown, Ben Hutchinson : Marana-Tucson, AZ : 2002 Honda XR650R

    77 – ukdirtdigger - Ben Shuckburgh : Powys, Wales : 1983 Honda XL600 Paris-Dakar :

    293 – wheretheroadendsmoto - Simon Edwards : Brighton, CO : 2015 Beta 350rr :

    123 – warejn - Jacob Ware : Conifer, CO : 2017 Yamaha WR250R :

427 - MachoGrande - Brian Lynn, Carlos Lopez Jr. : San Juan Capistrano, CA : 82’ Yamaha IT465

I'm not exactly sure if Simon Edwards is wheretheroadendsmoto, but I do know he was a dude on that most epic ride from the arctic circle through the Darien gap to the tip of South America. Go Simon go. He for sure is going for class win again this year.

Notably absent is #151 Steve Hengeveld, the winner last year and I believe in 2017 as well. Steve did DAKAR this year!

So who's the person to watch for overall? Ukdirtdigger kicked butt last year taking 2nd overall, we’ll see what he can do on the Super vintage XL600 Paris-Dakar! Good luck man.

Also a non-inmate I’m interested in is ‘EDub’, the nut racing the 2019’ 1200 XE Triumph Scrambler. Apparently he is a movie stunt rider and a whole lot more. What kind of stunts is he going to pull in Baja with 1200 CCs! This should be fun.

And of course everyone’s favorite, Kevin and Michele Busch racing 2-up on their 2006 Honda XR 650 R! FirePig is crewing for them and I’m rooming with FirePig during the race so I hope to get some good insights. This team always has their sights set on class win. UNREAL!

I know there are others we need to watch, I will find them

This is going to be a hoot. Flying to San Diego on Friday. Taxi and bus to Ensenada then fly back from Cabo after party.

I know my recent bionic shoulder is going to magically get completely healed and I’ll be frothing at the bit to ride... but patience is a virtue... or so I have been told. Constant beer and taco round for moi. Things could be worse. :photog

I have a couple of medical and trauma bags on their way down right now with Peter Lang (Racing a Chevy S10). Pick them up in Ensenada. Hopefully won’t have to use them but I will be available for anyone should the need arise.

    Party on Garth.

@FirePig , what time do you land? If it's by 11:00am we can probably haul you to ETown.

@cavebiker , a little update to your list if you can... in the +50 class, #o59, Joe B., change that around to New York NY, and the in memory of Jake can be deleted. The info was off Jennifers entry NORRA kinda messed it up, no biggie. We had to pull Jens buggy entry, lack of time and $ getting ready.

Knowing how fast @ukdirtdigger can ride a bike and it being his 3rd shot at NORRA I would have said he was the odds-on favorite for the OA win. But, no offense Ben, I'm not sure he can do it on the old replica XL.

Steve won it OA in '14, '17, and '18.
I really don't see a standout, IMO, for the entry to beat this year. That sould make it more interesting than a runaway like Steve.
Of the current list I'd say maybe 17, 218, or 701.

I'll ditto Tim's projection. Ben, ukdirtdigger, is incredible fast and consistent. Especially for a 50+ dude... or "mate" using his vernacular. I would love to see a "classic", both bike and years under his belt, take the overall. Aces!

Thanks brother i got right on it and loaded it on my GPS and started pouring over the roadbook stuff. Day 1 Special race sections comparing to last year-->

Way cool, I’m comparing day-1 road-book from last year and see there is more then one way to race from Ensenada to San Felipe. This year the mileage for race section-1 is 89 mi, last year is was 110. This year the max altitude in this section is 4,559ft, last year it was 4,065. I love profile maps and always wonder what the H those peaks and valleys are going to be like. Sense it’s different from the last 2 years I guess I have no idea

Although Special Section 2 looks vary similar, but not exactly.

This is fun stuff, I imagine Eliseo García (Mike Perlmen's partner) and his crew going out and doing field research every year on these courses, How Flippen Cool is that!

Packin up. Should be in around 2pm. Tim was gracious to offer to pick me up at the airport but I will have two Baja newbies in tow, Michelles son and his girlfriend, and the truck is packed. (Much thanks anyway Tim.) So I will be helping our young ducklings navigate across the border and to Ensenada.

Looking at next weeks weather it looks like 65-70F on the Pacific side and mid to high 80'sF on the Sea of Cortez side. For those of you competing be sure to hydrate and take some good electrolytes. Salt tablets don't do crap and only make things worse. Gatoraide… bleh. Better than salt but not complete. Pedialyte is good and readily available in Mexico. We had a really good discussion on this topic two years ago in this forum.
