Thanks. It looks like a good buy but I am looking for a dual sport, not a small adventure bike. I will most likely get a KLX230 or KLX250. Both are much lighter and more dirtworthy than the 310GS. For anyone looking for a lightweight adventure bike it would be worth checking out the link. The guy has a good price on a bike that has a lot of extras on it.

I have been trying to get a couple of my recently passed MSF course friends to buy that bike. It would be a great first bike.

In January I transplanted to HSV from the very flat coast of North Carolina and klaviator suggested looking through this thread for riding loops. I've been exploring the roads around Hwy 65 in Jackson County but would love to hear about more. I've spent several summer vacations in East TN/WNC, so I'd like to map out the best places between here and there. Unfortunately I sold all my dirt bikes when my son left for the Coast Guard, so paved is all I can do for the time being.

I also love riding E. TN, WNC and N. GA. I have a number of different routes to get to those places. Sometimes I take the most direct route and sometimes a more scenic route. The riding here in Alabama isn't as good as those places but it's still pretty good. I also often head up into middle TN. If you go north on County line road you will find some pretty good riding just past the state line.

    Some middle TN riding:

@muguvian might want to check out the Little River Canyon National Preserve that is east of Fort Payne, AL.

If you have a half day to kill, take the back way through telladaga national forest down to barber raceway 10 miles East of Bhm. Spend 2-3 hours at Mc museum. Biggest in world and pretty impressive.

I'm putting the GS back together after an ABS-ectomy. I will try to be there.

Any of you in NE AL ever check out Orme Mountain Road?

Took these pictures in the Franklin State Forest right up the road. Missed Orme Mountain Road that day and will have to ride it next time through the area.

I did some exploring myself today. I rode around the fire service roads in Bankhead NF for a few hours. On the southwest side of Bankhead, there must have been 50 cars at a swimming hole. It was a good day to ride.

Didn't see that you were around Crow Mt until this morning, but by coincidence I did the same loop Sat morning about the same time on my TLS. Went down CR33 and up CR39, and got caught out a couple times on some broken pavement on 33 when setting up for a tight turn. 1000x more enjoyable roads than the coast of NC, so thanks for the recommendations.

Did you happen to pass by the Flint Creek trailhead? Been trying to ride there for weeks but it had been closed. Can you tell me if it's open now?
