Back in december when the Suwannee River was in flood stage I was out poking around on the SV650 to try and keep the battery charged!

Sounds like fun. I have a 85 BMW R80 at Jeff's place now. Hope to get the TJ frame patches done Thursday and Friday So I can take the airhead for a spin Saturday.

Wow! She's a clean one. Not sure what the plan is this weekend yet - wound up being gone all day Sat riding when the group wanted to go to down town Gainesville (for some god awful reason, never getting into that mess again). I'll ping ya if it looks like a possibility

Had to work this morning and wound up on a solo ride on a whim way in the outerlands in stuff I hadn't been before on the West side of Madison almost over to Monticello on some dirt roads I had been eyeballing a while. A couple sandy silty SH*T holes (South end of Gum Swamp Rd in Jefferson County, yuck. North end was nice though). Overall though a very favorable and enjoyable day. Some great hard pack roads and good landmarks I stumbled across. A few new tarmac roads also. I still say - very underrated and under-served portion of the state for riding!!

Some more pictures. The churches had a sign that said 1840. WOW. 20190330_142006.jpg 20190330_142826.jpg 20190330_142916.jpg 20190330_143247.jpg

Green pastures, and fantastic clay gravel hard pack under oak canopy roads... 20190330_144533.jpg 20190330_144545.jpg 20190330_144901.jpg 20190330_151657.jpg

And what would a Florida ride be without at least a bit (in this case about 5 miles worth) of miserable assed silt sand. I dropped it once more after that picture in a spot with truck ruts probably a foot deep. All low speed stuff... 20190330_153144.jpg 20190330_154140.jpg 20190330_154150.jpg 20190330_154208.jpg

That's really cool - I had not saw that before, but i have rode quite a few of those roads though. Definitely a few on there I haven't been to yet I'll have to check out!

I finally joined the modern age and got a handle bar mount for my phone...up until this point I've basically looked at maps ahead of time tried to memorize them and only pulled my phone out when i needed to.

Yes those are some awesome roads. That section from Ashville hwy up to Grooverville Rd and back down to 19 is bitchin. The Basset Dairy Rd part is tops as well.

    Theres a little single lane asphalt aspahlt off of Salt Rd (that ones pretty fun in its own right at the right speeds), but the little single lane asphalt at the arrows below is pretty awesome to just slow speed cruise and rubber neck at;

A place I have been wanting to go back to, is a dirt road west of Perry off of US 98. From the junction of the Aucilla River and US 98, travel west to the first dirt road on the right. This road goes into Hell's Half Acre Swamp. It is a swamp formed by the Wacissa River widening and splitting. I remember it being scenic and even offering places to fish. The road goes about 6 miles before it dead ends. This land is part of the Aucilla Wildlife Management Area. Anyone been there lately?

On the West side of the Aucilla? I'm not familiar with that one. That's getting a little bit of a stretch for me to day trip and ride much, but I'll try to check it out sometime.

Tell you what, went a few weeks without riding and then got in good rides 3 days in a row...almost have everything back right in the world. Thanks for riding today also @jaydee1445.

Pics from a solo ride Friday after the storm we had blow through earlier in the day. The wind beat me up, it was crazy bad Friday and Saturday both. IMG_20190420_091150_361.jpg 20190419_193537.jpg 20190419_193458.jpg 1555716810942.jpg

    Hey @BillyGoat4130 ,
A small group of us from Jax are in the beginning stages of planning some exploring out between Live Oak and Monticello.
I'm a bit familiar with the area as Live Oak is my father's hometown and we have our family farm out west off US90 (see copy of your map with red arrow), you've driven right by it.
At any rate, was just wondering if you'd be wiling to share some gpx tracks that have dirt roads in them? Feel free to PM me and I can share contact info.
    Thanks.

That's really cool - I don't live super far from there! I've not been really good at making/keeping track files, mostly because I just kind of know the area and ride from memory. I literally just got a phone mount for the bike like 2 weeks ago and have been starting to experiment with that some...

That being said, there are a couple I've mapped out with Google Maps, and converted to track files, on roads have rode in person. Here is a file attached you can load on kurviger.de and maybe other apps (This part is kinda new to me, apologies) but this is a pretty bad ass ride and has some cool scenery, good mix of asphalt and some dirt, and some nasty ass silt sand to keep things exciting, too. Fair warning, Bailey Grade and the middle of Gum Swamp Rd will make you work :) The only part I haven't rode on a bike is the little loop section between SR 53 and Little Cat Rd in Madison. But everything else in that area is awesome and see little reason that isn't also. I've not promoted this track until I've rode it all myself end to end so you're kind of a guinea pig like myself, but this should be pretty close to a full days worth of riding with a few breaks. Or break it up into 2 different days and just bee-line back to wherever on US90 when you're ready. It's never too far away.

It's harder to find dirt roads that aren't pure sand and silt until you go just a little bit further North and or West to find some clay/gravel mixes.
