It has been my dream to ride to this place from almost 2 years and finally came true last month. I started my ride from March 13 when I landed at Guwahati. Initial plan was to cover 3 states of north east - which is Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. However I had to change my plans since the places I was visiting were already crowded with tourists so took some less explored routes to complete my ride back at Assam covering two more states Manipur and Nagaland.

Thought I will write a complete ride report of day to day however I am not good with words. Also since English is not my first language, I make too many grammatical errors which would be infuriating for many :D However I feel I am good with telling the stories via videos and I have been doing that from last 4 years.

First this video will give you the glimpse of my entire 16 day ride in just 4 min out of the 700gb of footages I recorded. Hope you like it. Will post more of that in the next posts.

    Cheers,
    Arun

Day 1 : Getting shocked at the 350 rupees chow chow bath at the airport to having super yummy home food at Tezpur, many things happened today. Already feels like mutliple days since the ride started. But its only one day.

Funny thing happened as I was halfway dashing back to my flight because i forgot my bag on the plane, only to realize I'm wearing it as backpack!

Warm welcome to the Guwahati by a cab driver who even paid for the juice he offered, refused tip because athithi devobhava!

Hot weather in Guwahati and hotter than Banglore. So I'm going to head up to the mountains soon. Lovely meeting Reeturaj and share some quick stories. Hope we get to meet and share more soon. Samir is the sweet fellow who is hosting me here in Tezpur with yummy home made food.

Day 2 : From one end of hot temperature of 31 degrees to 8 degree cold the day went on. Bhalukpong has been opened now(probably from today) since due to election days. So the landslides I have heard is not myth. The rubbles keep rolling down to the road as I rode while I had question mark on my face everyone else rode on as well. Probably BAU for them. One time a large boulder rolled down on the road while I on the other side n car guy on the opposite. He just came down, moved the boulder n drove on. Simple people simple solutions

Almost everyone I spoke to are nice people and today I'm staying at Bomdilla.

Ps big thanks to Samiron and his family to hosting and feeding me. You guys are the best.

Day 3 : Bomdilla to Tawang

Crossing mighty sela is one thing which I was genuinely scared of. Since from my past experiences, cold climate always took toll on me and also the breathlessness in high passes. I think this time I was prepared and also sela was kind for me let me pass without any struggle. About 30kms to sela, my hands were freezing off(even with winter gloves n inliner, I had to stop and press my bare hands against the engine. Heard someone calling, looked around and there wasn't anyone. Then I looked up, n up on the small hill, there is a military guy asking me to come up offering warm water and tea. I was hesitant at first since it was far and I thought I will be late for Tawang. He called again. There was no route to go up, he asked to leave the bike and climb up. Took few min to recover once i reached the top, this kind soldier in his small hut, was cooking ginger tea and gave another stove to warm my hands. That was an unexpected gesture. Parvinder Singh from Haryana!

Not sure how many of you heard of 1962 war. War where more than 2000 Indian army lost their lives. Where chinese came attacking all the way till Tezpur. There are so many of the brave stories of soldiers and two of them you get to see at Nyukmadung and Jaswant Garh war memorial. Do read about that.

Before going to Tawang also witnessed this beautiful waterfall Jhung.

A friend of mine arranged the bike for me at Assam. There are options to rent as well. However it is as costly as 1200 indian rupees per day for Himalayan.

    Day 4 : Tawang - PTso lake - Y junction

Previous day when I reached I ran to the war memorial to get the pass to Bumla. The army guy said that he was supposed to be at Bumla but couldn't go due to snowstorm. So no chance of getting pass for anyone. Still tried at the DC office n no luck there too.

So day 4 morning few taxi drivers suggested to visit Ptso lake which doesn't really need pass. So up where I go. It was snow everywhere and just before ptso lake, army truck stopped and tying chains to their tyres. They suggested not to go further alone as you can't really handle bike alone in the snow. Since I wasn't taking no for an answer they suggested to go until there is snow on the road. So went halfway till the Y junction and the road was full of snow. I knew ill be stuck so turned back and came to ptso lake again. Thought ill hitchhike on the taxi's going that side. Then I met a biker from Delhi, Mayank and two riders from Kerala. So we four decided to go together until we are allowed to go.

When we reached Y junction, military stopped us and said that we have to return back since snow is heavy. One of the group was running to help the civilian car which went before and got stuck!

However this was the first time spending almost full day in snow filled mountains. The only part I struggled was my fingers paining like hell due to cold. What a day!!

Its open for all. Even for Indians we need to get ILP(inner line permit) for entering Arunachal Pradesh since it is a border state(with China). You can even apply online for the permit. I met a guy called Juan who was riding on his BMW 650 here.

Thank you . Glad you liked it.

Day 5 : Tawang to Dirang - It was supposed to be easy pass across the sela since I have crossed it easily while on the way to Tawang however there was a surprise. It had snowed the entire previous night that the snow road started after Jung. Until Jaswant garh it wasn't on the road so reached there. This is where you will find army canteen with free tea for everyone! I also ate idly there which is a rare item up there

Army asked to wait for an hour or more while one of the car fellow asked to go infront of him so that he will help in case there are issues. I didn't want to be nuisance to him so thanked him and asked him to carry on since I was yet to have breakfast there.

Riding in snow is the first time experience for me. Even at Y junction it wasn't that bad. But it was fun. At one point almost got stuck but managed to reverse and go where ever there is slush Gotta give it to decathlon shoes, not a drop went inside.

Reached Dirang by 2am and did not want to stay in Bomdilla again so as a friend suggested went to Sangti Valley. Now he had said its a nice place but I wasn't sure what I would find there. Actually I passed Sangti village about 10 min ago without realizing it was Sangti village. So found this ghat section kind of road on map, so kept going up and up. I think i rode for more than 45 min and it was still going up. The road I was taking did not look like usual route. There are no tracks of vehicles and looked like abandoned road. Almost 3/4th of the hill I could see few houses at the top so thought there must be a village. Also saw a gompa(temple) at the top. At the gompa there were 2 people and after talking to them, I flew the drone. In about 10 min half of the village came to see

It was one of the interesting experience and there are about 35 houses thats all. Secluded from everyone. They have their own school etc. It was getting dark and I could not spend much time. Hopefully I will go there again. Last photo is with the villagers.

One of the lady was joking that next time I should carry extra battery for drone because she didn't get to see by the time she carried her kid and ran up to the gompa The village is not on the maps yet.
