I think I am going to have to write an article about mosquito and bug prep. I was on the Dempster in the same window as Joris and Red Hungarian, but I had no trouble with mosquitoes.

I'm not bragging, I just prep my gear, use the right repellent, and I follow the first 2 recommendations from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:
    1. Don't Panic!
    2. Never forget your towel!

    Even Nerds can fight mosquitoes!

Notice the lack of bug netting.

That's my camp spot 18 June 2019, about 50 miles south of Eagle Plains.

I never thought the mosquitoes were bad at all.... apparently they were, I was just better prepared.

Fun mosquito fact.... that fits this thread.

A female mosquito must feed on blood to lay eggs.

Except Arctic Mosquitoes. They can lay half the normal amount of eggs without feeding.

It's why the mosquito population is much higher in Alaska and northern Canada. It's why mosquitoes can change the course of a quarter of a million head caribou herd migration.

I'll write it up over the weekend. If the site admins don't want to put it in the front page articles, I'll start a mosquito thread and link it here.

Not sure how I stumbled across the thread but I'm along for the ride. You are covering some ground I did a few years ago

Finally caught back up. Thanks for continuing the thread and keeping us updated. I'd been wondering what had happened on the Dempster and now I finally know!

That little KLR 250 looks great, it's ready for adventuring!

Stay safe and let's hope that soon we can get back out there and travel. I must say that seeing the photos from The North made me quite nostalgic.

Some spots were bug free, your prep was better choice of camp spots in my opinion.

Haha, well.. I've ran out of pictures and things to tell for this one. There's no more unfortunately..

But I've started a new one ;) Don't expect anything special though, and it definitely won't be 35 pages :D
