Looking for ADVenture in northeast PA? Me Too. I have strapped my Garmin to my DR and hit the trails. I am mapping out the Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning, Summit Hill and Weatherly areas. I have found some nice spots to ride and am trying to piece together a good loop around the area. If you have any map data of this area please share and if you want access to what I have send me a private message.

Y'all consider yourselves NEPA down there? I guess it differentiates you from SEPA = Philly/A-town.

Sorry, I've got nothing down there. Ride north about two hours and I've got the goods, though...

You will get a fine riding on PA State Game Lands, unless it's a "road" . I have the paperwork to prove this. Best of luck .

Yes no doubt you will get a fine. The yellow road on the right is RT93 stuff on the right of the road has signs and gates and is probably patrolled. the land on the left seems to be more of a no mans land. State Game land then some land owned by a local business then private property at the far most end.

you really shouldn't be posting stuff like this on line.
Even if YOU have the REQUIRED written permission to ride there, 100's of people will read this and show up, pissing off someone, and making the rest of us who follow the laws look bad.

Agreed, I was excited to see this until I realized you this wasn't actually designated trails. I love that area, and the people of Weatherly are great (I've run the hillclimb there several times). Last thing I would want to do is piss someone off by riding where we aren't supposed to be.

I can post the tracks just on the non game land stuff the gray area is no problem to ride and most of the purple is a game land road with no gate.

the posted private property is west of the gray tracks.

I updated the picture to reflect just the Kovatch land where people park their trucks and Jeeps/ trailers full of dirt bikes.

fire tower road is good to ride on. Only thing i can say about the area is west is posted land i have not ridden on and to the right not a sign in sight so if you do wish to stay off the game lands, bring your GPS.

I used to ride four wheelers up in that area years ago and to this day its still some of the best riding ive ridden around here. But from what i understand most of the area around there is posted and shut down. I used to ride around the mountain that the hill climb is on and i know you cant be there anymore from what im told and can see (yellow posted signs that are fresh). if a buddy asked me about going up in casual conversation i would strongly recommend staying on public roads and not going off road near there. Just my 2 cents

There are latterly hundreds of of miles of trail, two track jeep roads, in north and central Pa. that are legal to ride on. Most of the state forest have maps of these trailes. Some of the trails can be very challenging, some are just dirt roads your pick what you want to do. There are over 25 thousand miles of dirt road in Pa. that can be riden legally with a street legal bike. No need to trespass or ride state game lands. Some of the state game lands have legal roads you can ride. Some may be seasonal.

Pa. has 2.2 million acers of state park, and 4.8 million acers of State Game lands. Stay on maked trails and be safe.

I think it is a shame "we" own the game lands and cannot ride there. If only they would run it similar to Hatfield McCoy, they would find designated trails create jobs and money. As well as keep people in the state spending money. So many miles of DCNR land as well as State Game lands goes unused by all of us, but,,, we bought it. I think DCNR should be ashamed at the amount of trails they offer in our state, especially when they get revenue from each ATV and UTV sold. I am afraid that buy's new Chevy Tahoe's for politicians to ride around in from the General Fund that money goes into.

In NEPA and there is lost opportunity up here to ride. At least my county has the largest dirt road system in the State.

I think the point is that there ARE designated trails... NW PA is very off-road vehicle friendly (and they make a lot of money on it). Even so... there are always a few who seem to think they can go anywhere they want just because... they give all off-road riders a bad name.

    David,

Five Mile Meadow Rd is great dirt connector with some nice sightlines through the SF.

From Dingmans/739 go up to Five Mile Meadow Rd (dirt), connects to short section on Silver Lk (paved) then turn south on FlatRidge (dirt).

White Deer Lk Rd (dirt) on 402 north of the State Police Barracks. A short loop takes you back to 402, go slow, cabins.

Bridge over the Lack on Kimbles was closed for repairs last week when I passed by (signage up). Reroute through Hawley or bridge over Lack on Rowland Rd.

Lackawaxen Rd from Roebling over to 434/Barryville is a nice broken-pavement curvy climb section.

    Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the help, 5 Mile Meadow road looks great, I think I can weave it and the others into a new improved Dingmans Ferry to Downsville track.

It's going to be rainy all this week, so there is a good chance I will have it done before the weekend.

Cannonsville, I can't get your map to look like the way you made it look ...specifically inside PA and dingman's ferry . Have you made changes?

I have made some changes, but the tracks are pretty much the same. I see that I did post a picture of the Java jar file version while the link posted was for the browser version.

    Java version
    http://www.advcatskills.org/CatskillRides.jar

    browser version
    http://www.advcatskills.org/Maps

I hope it was obvious that the map zooms in and out and scrolls in all 4 directions and there is a row of tabs on the bottom for different categories of tracks. Each tab contains buttons to show or hide different tracks.

I updated the Java version of the map viewer, remembering to do all of the steps this time so the buttons matched the tracks available. Also tweaked the Dingmans_Downsville track with suggestions from inmate Econowatch.

UPDATE: the KME Fire Truck manufacturing company has been Sold! All the Land associated with it is still owned by Kivarch but the town wants it to be OFF LIMITS! Sucks yes we know. But what ever you do, DO NOT GET CAUGHT Parking and unloading anywhere around their property. The local LEO have been notified and are aggressivly Ticketing, impounding etc all vehicles.

Please Pull Down YOUR POSTS regarding riding in this area! There are folks negotiating with the to try and resolve this matter but in the mean time head my warning!!
