Yea, thinking of riding there. I had the wild idea of doing a IBA ride from the most northern to the most southern points in Ontario doing an in province ride. Total mileage is over 1500 mi, so it is a bun burner. Google puts the drive time at 30 hours. Very much in the dreaming/thinking stage at the moment.

The pavement does end at Pickle Lake, but the aggregate surface is comparable to the run between Isabella and Grand Marias. I wanted to go further north on the aggregate (as I wanted to a couple years back north of Thompson MB), but my moto mates were on street machines (RT1200R Beemer and the CX500). Was really hard to hold my KLR back! Looking back, I should have changed my 50-50 tires out to a less aggresive knob (80/20 pavement/aggregate tire). The chip seal pavement north from Ignace to Pickle Lake ate quite a bit of life off my new tires.

You thinking of taking the CB 550? That set up you have would be a gas north of Pickle Lake. By the way, the restaurant and hotel to the south of "downtown" really has very good food and the rooms there are very well kept. The hotel on the lake as you get into town was in the process of opening up a diner, but a month out according to handyman "Bones". Whilst in Pickle Lake, we did have 4 bars of cell service, which made my kid very happy. We are lucky to get 1 bar at home.

Should anyone be interested... my plan is to ride tomorrow, with intentions of linking up the most technically challenging spots I can remember how to get to, for some speed & technique practice. This will be for a big chunk of the day, and as many miles as I can handle. I’d LOVE some like minded riding company. Safety & fun in numbers.

I’ll probably be racing next weekend in Duquette, so I need to shake off as much rust as I can.

Do that one as a Bunburner 36 hours, but make sure you ride one direction to Round Lake as a tourist. I don't know how you document that ride for IBA. The only gas receipt is located at Pickle Lake.

The IBA also has the Northwest Angle to Key West ride, farthest north to farthest south in continental US.

One of the IBA rides I haven't succeeded at (made one attempt) is an all gravel saddlesore 1000. There was/is a route figured out between Nebraska/Colorado region. I probably still have the gps tracks somewhere. Rain and western mud are an issue to the timing and the chance of success. For me, I'm not sure whether or not I'll succeed at checking that one off my bucket list. http://www.ironbutt.com/themerides/dusty/

    Just saying...

You're way too fast for me! Have fun and don't do a superman over your handlebars like someone did this spring.

:lol3 “Someone” is on his way to Idaho, for a ride that I had so wanted to be a part of, yet I’m going to miss out on.

I’ll do my best to keep myself in check.

I already posted in the Shindig thread, but this was the result of my ride yesterday. It was a long, fun day. D809E9C6-D256-406F-A1CA-595266C88AD6.jpeg 1280E8FE-E4D9-4D68-9931-D87ADCF5E42D.jpeg 6F65E04F-C0DC-49B1-B4D9-91217F4990AA.jpeg 6594C379-714B-4F32-A795-17ABBA2BDD90.jpeg

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions. My free time was shorter than I had planned but did get to Sawbill lake for one night of camping and a day on the water. Beautiful area and will definitely be back for a multi day Boundary trip.

While our initial goal wasn't reached (Nav & Mechanical issues) we made the best of it while we were out there in the Idaho backcountry.. A real paradise of high alpine single track riding.. We'll be back.. I'm sure the planning stages will start as soon as the snow begins to hit the ground here in MN..

I'd like to try doing some exploring out in the Superior Natl. Forest tomorrow. Anyone up for going? I'd rather not go solo being as remote as that can get and not knowing the area.

I thought about heading up there tomorrow after I get home, out of town right now, hope to be back to Hermantown by 2:00. I'm new to the area so I'm no local expert, but I'll have my gps and my CB500X.

I’m planning to be around tomorrow, and I’ll be looking to ride. I would like to do some Shindig scouting and clearing, minimizing gravel travel to the extent possible. I’ve got 13/51 gearing on my 450X, so road cruising speed will be limited.

We're going to have prime fall colors in a couple weeks. Lots of great roads to ride and see Minnesota woods and lakes in all of their glory.

Duluth rider here. I've met a few of you in person. I was lucky enough to ride the Continental Divide last year with my Dad, and I documented the entire thing. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I'd love to get out with more local riders next year (and what's left of this season haha).
