I've never been in the Russian North so after seeing a good weather forecast, I decided that the time is right. It was so spontaneous that at 11 pm on the day before the trip I was still doing my work.
But at 6 am I was ready to begin my way. Inspiration is approaching.

Children are glad to try on my bike. And I'm trying to find a lodging place.

But there are no free rooms in the closest cheap hotels. So I decided to have some rest and then continue my way along the Polar Day.

    Day 2

I'm at the Seaport of Murmansk. It's a beautiful, fresh morning. 5.00 am. The sea, ships and nobody around.

I was sitting on a bench and napping. Dreams were short but very bright. 3 hours later I was ready to continue my way.

First look at Murmansk, the poorest part of it

Then I headed for Teriberka, an interesting rural area on the Arctic coast

I met this guy from Vladivostok here. It will be more fun together.

It's time to ride back in Murmansk.

Don't like this sand sections. My motorcycle feels it like Bambi on ice.

I have a small issue. The gas is almost over. We tried to use this pipe but without big success. Thanks to the locals, they presented me several liters.

Some time later it was our turn to help. This man had lost his muffler.

Luckily for him I'd took some screws for my bike and they turned out to be suitable. It will fly.

    We came back to Murmansk.

And this is the time to sleep.

    Easy riding in Murmansk
This is the biggest city in the world above the Arctic Circle, but the weather was really fine and I felt like I was in the South :-)

Murmansk was very important port during the WWII, so it has large monument to all the defenders of this region from fascist attacks.

This small ship with a paper sail is like our dream. It may be very small but it creates the whole mood of the picture

There are not many gas stations here. I rode with 50 km/h speed for about 2 hours to save my fuel balance. Luckily I met these guys on 2 Nivas. They had big gas canister.

And now my idea is to explore small towns near the Finnish border

The asphalt pavement ran out quickly. There are brutal roads here. My rear wheel surrended in the half of the way to Kalevala.

Luckily I had this repair kit.

Guys from the bus helped me a lot with the compressor

But the tire was destroyed on the side too. So I need some help for repairing. Air level in tire was enough to reach Kalevala.
I asked these firemen about a tire service, they told me the adress of the private house

The young guy repaired my tire with big mushroom putch

A little later his father showed up on an old Soviet motorcycle

They didn't take any money and we had good heart-to-heart talk.

I remember it all. Beddoes was a mouthy, xenophobic drunk. A disgrace to Canada. It's a shame that meal did not poison him.

    Night 5 (White night)

I had got a Polar day riding at the first day and I wanted to get a White night riding too

I've met two guys from Murmansk went to St. Petersburg. Althought the night was formally white it was dark between 2 and 4 a.m. So 4 lenses of GoldWing were very opportune

The road was great, time just got away

An interesting thing, I never came to St. Petersburg by rain, although it's famous for its gloomy climate. This time was no exception. The sun began to break through the clouds. A good time to dry my clothes.
