Could you send me tracks plz?
OK, Later today when I gat back home
I would be interested in these tracks as well. Leaving from Seymour it seems like it would be a nice ride. We've got a small crew heading out tomorrow morning if anyone is interested in being a tour guide!
Where to send?
May be to late but here's a few Drop Box links
Local Dirt (been a while since I revisited this one)
CT to Mass
CT to Mass Description
If you plan on doing any future rides that I might tag along let me know.
l'll keep you posted.
I did JackDob's route last weekend. Pleasantly surprised by how much dirt was on it.
One nice thing I had no idea what town I was in most of the time! Unless there were obvious signs like lake Waramaug, otherwise blissful ignorance.
I did peel off a bit before reaching Winsted, had to get home.
We did some areas today before I got Jack's route via email.
We started out in Seymour and hit Plaster House Rd near Southford Falls. But it was mostly the street from there to Kent as we weren't sure where to go. We did manage to do some good riding in the Kent/Cornwall/Salisbury area. Although after getting home and checking the map it seems we may have been on some forbidden area. We got directions from a local on a KLR who pointed us to this trail system. He stated that he talked to a CO up there who told him as long as the gate was open it was legal to ride.
Yeah I know, but it was nice area.
After checking the area out on a map when I got home a quick internet search shows it seems to be open for just about everything including snowmobiles but doesn't mention motorcycles.
If it's Housatonic State Forest, the law man can and will give you a hard time if you go exploring off the main dirt roads. All those cool looking side trails/roads are off limits
At least one of the Drop Box files has a long and short dirt route to Kent. Don't forget the Kent Staircase, the dirt road up the hill at the end of River Rd.
Yes it was Housatonic. We stayed on the main trails simply because we had a guy with us that had never been off road before.
So the main double track/Fire roads are legal to ride?
Yes, they are legal. Last time I rode up there, was with a couple of inmates that got hassled for being off the main roads.
These are two good threads to post/look for rides
CT riders check in
RI & Eastern CT Big Bike Drop 'O' Rama
Thanks for the info!
If anyone is looking to put together a DS ride Let me know. I, along with a friend of mine, would be leaving from Seymour and heading wherever. I've got an '05 KTM 450 EXC and he has '16 KTM 500EXC. So doing a ton of road riding won't be as much fun as hitting the trails with those bikes. Although, as I said above, we did a lot of road riding yesterday.
I could use a copy of that gpx file.
Ditto, if you could be so kind, Louis.email@example.com
I did this track on Saturday. It was a good ride. I did find a way to cut out some pavement with a few more dirt roads. I'll get with Jack and see if he can add/edit his track. I'm not 100% sure how to do it myself just yet.
The one that Goes to Winsted?
It actually ends on rt 183 in Colebrook.
I just went over Jack's route again just to see where it went as opposed to where we went on Saturday as I'm pretty familiar with the main roads in the area of Lake Waramaug and 341 in Kent. His route does take a few detours that I'm not familiar with. I'm gonna head out later this week and give that route a try to see which one I like better. I'll report back.
If anyone is interested in tagging along feel free. It will probably be Wednesday or Thursday. I'll be leaving from the Great Hill area of Seymour probably around 5pm'ish.
I have had success with combining tracks and editing out and creating a whole new 'track'. What I need is the new track you are taking. Just recover it from your GPS and send it to me. I will combine them where you think the results will improve the ride.
