So much of this particular day is right in my backyard. Had I known you were coming I could have met you with my JetSki. The kettle falls campground and marina is one of my favorite places to JetSki. Maybe next year . . .

Can you tell me which map that is which features kettle falls in the middle? I've not seen before and would like to buy a copy.

hats off to these riders from Tennessee, 2 of them in their mid 60s and the tall one in his 70s

they completed the TAT the day before at Fort Ordford OR and now slabbing east to their homes. only one bike had a major issue....your guess is right.

i stopped at every campground and RV places along the way.....sorry we're full was the typical answer. worse case is ride to Salem and stay in a motel.

i remember paying $6 or $7 per night, deal and i'm staying for 2 nights

home is where i am but i need drinking water. there are water spigots and as i approached the nearest one, my neighbor warned me that is is river water and may not be safe for drinking. immediately they offered me a gal which you see in this picture. nice folks. then another rider showed up and looking for water to drink, i gave him a liter from mine.

The water not being safe doesn't sound right to me. My experience has been that the NFS tests the water delivered from campground spigots and if they don't pass they either don't turn them on or put signs on them warning that they aren't potable.

Enjoying this long version of your ride report. Ride on Joel.

Day 33, 2020.07.22, Marion Forks - Mckenzie Pass - Sisters - Marion Forks

short riding but good, approx 120 miles, counter-clockwise
    upload_2020-9-19_18-28-22.png

    waking up to this
    [IMG]

i don't have enough fuel to do the loop, and i don't really want to ride back to Sisters. i would rather do it in the afternoon, buy food and water on the way back to camp. don't really have a choice, but ride south. i reached an intersection and rode into this fuel depot
    [IMG]

pulled next to the pump and asked if i can buy gas. the person there replied "not for sale". i explained my situation and he offered to give how much i need for free. wow, 2 days in a row i've been blessed with OR hospitality
    [IMG]

now with enough fuel, i will be able to do the counter-clockwise loop. no additional weight and no food to spoil

eventually, it will be our turn and i'm already getting ahead of myself.

before my dad passed away, we were against putting him into a hospice and decided to keep him in my house. we got trained on how to administer and do some of the caregiver's job.

    it's really a not-to-be-missed route and deserves a repeat.

happy to hear OR got some rain and the wildfires are mostly out. over here, there's some improvement but not over yet.

we have 2 architects in the family and i remember them talking about Frank Lloyd Wright's architectures and what he believed in designing in harmony with humanity and its environment. I've been in a few of his buildings, one is in Pasadena CA.

Day 35, 2020.07.24, Lazy Bend Campground (Estacada) - Sandy - Government Camp - Hood River

not sure why google map won't allow me to recreate my route by taking Hood River Bridge from Hood River to White Salmon (Mosko Moto). under Option, the Ferry is unchecked, could be the bridge is currently closed.

$1 will get you on the bridge, not too bad on the bike if not windy. if you have an RV, it is sketchy since you only have about a foot clearance from the right railing.

I rode over that bridge once in the late '70s and swore I would never do it again. When we decided to cross on that bridge we had no idea it was grated the entire way. It was dark, rainy, and the wind was blowing. On the other side the three of us took a break to allow our white knuckles to regain their color. I drove across it about 5 years ago in my Toyota Tacoma and didn't like it any better in a four-wheeled vehicle since it is so narrow. All this fun for only a dollar. :lol3

while in White Salmon, i met one inmate driving a big rv and swore not to drive on that bridge again. the wind was blowing hard and claimed he had only about 8" of clearance between him and the railing.

$1 thrill and last longer than what we want.

the other option is to take a detour to the Dalles
