^^^ The Guzzi rider seems to be enjoying himself. Good one.
mk, next time you come over pick a good month and i will be happy to take you to DV.
David. myself is a MG fan. old school and drive shaft. of course we know an Italian air-head between your legs is happiness. i missed my 2005 V11 Le Mans and hope one day...
Deal, I'd enjoy that.
due to responsibilities and campground duties, i didn't really get to ride a lot while in Death Valley. 2 weeks later still longing to get out but riding solo is no fun. so i posted a want-to-ride in the LA ADV thread just a few days before the planned weekend ride (April 11-12) and had 3 takers.
smogged.out and BiggieFalls showed up at my house before 7am. our planned route is to ride north to Ojai - Carrizo Plains - Pozo Saloon - Santa Maria
we rode a couple of the finest twisty roads in socal, hw 150 and 33 on our way to get to Carrizo Plains
Doc Sarvis on Quatal Canyon
it was chilly, have to put on a shell over and had my heated grips on. also wearing a heated vest.
the rest of the story is here
in 2 days, we rode a little over 500 miles
a week later, April 18 - 24, 2021...this time to Moab for 6 days. it's a mixed plan, alternately ride the Honda Monkey and the little red pig.
left the house on Saturday morning, drove up north, took the I-15 and stopped for lunch in Baker, just to find out my favorite restaurant, the Mad Greek is out of business...
then to the best hamburger in CA, except this one is in Las Vegas.
into the AZ strip and bush camped at Black Rock before crossing into UT
sharing my sleeping quarter with the monkey. i used to do that with my XR400 and that wasn't smart. the gas vapor escaping from the fuel tank will kill me silently...
next morning, back on the road. the roadside landscape is stunning
made it to Moab RV Resort before 3 pm on Sunday and our friends @Some Beach and ms. are pretty much settled in
monday morning meet up with fellow inmates at 8am....brrr it was 45F, but the reception was warm. thanks to @simbaboy for organizing this gathering
the monkey gang
then to Potash Road and with the speed limit, we were able to hang with the rest of the group
unknown to us, honda sent along their stunt rider @Some Beach
@Pcfly doing a great job and making sure no monkey is left behind....
we took our first break
short meeting before tackling dirt....we have an assortment of bikes, from 125 to 1000 cc
no such thing as a bad picture in Moab
things starting to heat up
the Colorado River
the sweep finally caught up....
sorry if the pics are out of sequence....
our loyal sweeep
we were easily dwarfed by the rock formations
our fearless leader making sure the last rider make it to the end
also a TW200 in the mix
almost near the top of Shafer Trail and who elso?
our fearless leader Simbaboy
these monkeys are the first to conquer Shafer Trail....
this one taken earlier
we made it to the Canyonland Visitor Center and were received like celebrities.....
not a bad day for the monkeys' first foray on dirt. it was a blast ......
Utah is on my bucket list in the next year or so...
thanks for chiming in...and i'm pretty sure @simbaboy will have a Moab meetup next year. let's make it the biggest and baddest monkey ride
the next day i let the monkey take a day off since today's ride is the White Rim Trail loop and will need more hp and suspension travel. we took the pavement to Canyonlands but when we got there, a mile long of cars lined up in traffic were waiting for us
eventually we were at the top of Shafer Canyon
unlike yesterday, this one we're heading down
waited for the guys so i can take a picture of them
we reached the bottom
at the junction of Potash and Shafer, i transferred my spare gas to my tank and had doubts that i don't have enough to complete the WRT loop. fortunately, these guys gave me another gal and half.
big thanks to this guy for the refill...
the xr400 breathing freely without worrying about running out of gas
worried that i fell off the trail, Carter walked down and searched for me. my bike stalled and could not find good traction. this pic was taken after i passed him while he's hiking back up. great riding buddy and proud of him.
the good old xr and rider
no clue what's underneath us
beauty below us
Man, I need to get to Utah...
Great riding out there Joel! That was a great group, great ride......lots of great fun!
White Rim Trail group.
My favorite photo of the White Rim Tail.......
Another from the White Rim Trail.
This was the day before the White Rim Trail.......all Monkey Business.
More Monkey Business from the day before......
Good times Joel, I have a few more of you but don't want to jump ahead. Here's another from Day 1
@Pcfly I didn't know you were a Monkey sweep, we just thought you couldn't get enough of the Monkey Biz. Anyway, thanks for watching out for the little guys on Day 1 and keeping everyone on the old folks eating schedule back at camp.
don't wait too long....depends on the date, i am ready to go back.
traffic is bad, so stay in town.
even in the shoulder season, Moab is already packed.
Paul. our timing was perfect and the campground (Moab RV) was great. i honestly enjoyed the company of everyone, and eating out was good too.
sorry, i used many of your good pictures and didn't give you credit for it. anyway, i know you're cool and really appreciate uploading them to my smugmug, they are safe and available for a long time.
thanks Dave. the monkey ride is epic. nice pics and thanks for waiting for day 3 for more monkey business. i'll get the WRT rr done soon.
@Some Beach was thinking of doing WRT. it can be done but i think the suspension is certainly inadequate. lots of 1 ft drop, shelves, embedded rocks and square hits; this is where the 21" front and 10" travel are essential. of course rider skill is the most important!
it is steep once you're on it
paul, carter and the never-ending scenic landscapes. KTM 500s ruled this ride!
the crew and the Green River
a vintage XR400 got in the mix
@Blaise W doing a fine job leading
6-day (ISDT) porn
shall we turned around and do it in reverse?
i said....let's just call it we had a great ride
the shadow is getting long and let's have a nice dinner in town!
the Monkeys next....Sand Flats - La Sal - Onion Creek Loop
Yup Joel, everyone had a very good time! Even Bill's body double kept coming by to see what we were up to. No worries on the photos.......I just want 90% of the profits.
Let me know when the next ADV is.
