all the roads are new to me and they didn't disappoint. just the correct mix of backroads, dirt, and mountain roads. good riding and a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors, and the best part we got back with plenty of daylight to hangout at Mr. JAJA's mancave......:clap

thanks to @Zubb, @Wierdrider and @Mr.JAJA for letting me tag along.....:y0!

Good times Joel. Great meeting you and exploring together. Not to mention hanging is @jaja’s garage and chowing good Mexican food.

2020.11.19, Ramona CA (east of San Diego) - Pamo Valley - Black Canyon Truck Trail - Black Canyon Road - Lake Sutherland

the last 2 days have been very satisfying and got ideas of the lay of the land. today, had a late start and went for a solo ride. i took Pamo Road to get to the truck trail
    [IMG]

the plan is to take this road then cross over to Black Canyon Road
    [IMG]

i think it's here where i missed the turn to Black Canyon Road
    [IMG]

i went straight and up.....the view
    [IMG]

    saw only 2 riders today
    [IMG]

made it to the top and the road is gone...huh
    [IMG]

anyway, the 360 view was worth it
    [IMG]

    looks like a small fire
    [IMG]

the road below is where i need to be
    [IMG]

rode down and returned to Ramona so i could my way to Black Canyon Road. just could not believe i missed the turn twice....:nod

Great riding and memories of when I lived in Warner Springs. Take the truck trail from WS (chihuahua vallry rd) to Anza and then down to Anza Borego desert via back entrance from Anza down to <forgot the name> valley where Baileys Cabin is. Super ride, the gate is (was...) open from Anza during winter, its closed in the summer for big horn sheep water access.

    Hello Roger.

That's a great loop and not far from where I'm staying. Hmmm.

Had so much fun exploring east SD for the last 4 days and still a few places to see.

I believe Coyote Canyon? But you can’t ever get through to ANSP anymore, the gate is always closed I’m pretty sure. Going to Bailey’s cabin is on my list of places to ride.

I've actually wanted to go there as well and from the videos I've seen on youtube it's a sandy affair. Maybe when i get back we'll have to link up.

Thats correct, Coyote Canyon. Last time I accessed the canyon down turkey trot was 2015, so lots may have changed. Back in 2014-15, I did that passage frequently and it was open outside of the watering dates during the summer. No sand on the truck trail between WS and Anza at that time, I am ... horrible at sand, so I remember having to ride in sand vividly. In Anza, there is lots of sand but its doable, I lived less than a mile from the Coyote Canyon trailhead prior to living in WS and rode that area quite a bit. If I can ride through the sand there, anyone can:) Once down turkey trot, there is sand, its a dry river bed but my memory is that it wasnt too bad.

Jealous of your SD riding, what a great place to ride and connect interesting small towns like WS, Anza, Julian, etc. Looking forward to more photos of the rest of your trip! Thanks for sharing!

2020.11.20, Ramona CA (east of San Diego) - Pamo Valley - Upper Santa Ysabel Rd - FS1207 - Black Canyon Road - Mesa Grande - Santa Ysabel - Pine Hills Rd (Julian) - Boulder Creek Rd - Inija Indian Reservation - Boulder Creek Rd - Descanso - Hwy 79 - Julian - Santa Ysabel - Old Julian Hwy - Ramona

today's mission is to find Upper Santa Ysabel Rd - FS1207 which i missed yesterday. this will take me to Black Canyon Rd without going back to town.

took Pamo Rd (3rd time) and turned right here (2nd attempt) which is the same dirt road as yesterday
    [IMG]

i have to admit, wasn't very comfortable riding solo in unfamiliar terrain, but my curiosity and taking risks are part of the adventure
    [IMG]

there's the problem, by staying on the left side to avoid the big, i missed the road on the right. the gps shows it too.

this is the section of BCR i didn't do yesterday since i turned right on Sutherland Dam Road. this time going north to Mesa Grande Rd
    [IMG]

easy to go fast here but the road surface is marbly and coming in the corner hot can be a problem
    [IMG]

didn't see a cow on the road!

so i'm done with the entire length of BCR and can check this one out. also lucky didn't see any oncoming vehicle, especially the one who likes to drift in the corners.

i turned left on Mesa Grande Road, northbound. this road is in great shape and lots of twisties.

someone puked oil here and at the perfect spot

Cool video. I believe this is our friend Dennis @DSchmidt7of7 at 43:10, sitting just in front of the gray haired, black shirted guy who's standing in the back. I think his team may have won this last year. He could probably tell you all about it.

Good anza borrego park map above, its part of pinyon mtn road. The squeeze is just before heart attack hill which is on the map as one way in center of below.

    Screenshot_20201121-123715.png

I have done the trail in 4x4s but not a moto. Rodriguez canyon out of julian on the way to AB park could be fun, if you are camping, aqua caliente state park is right down there and the hot spring pools are super. Pack water and be prepared if heading out too deep in AB park, lots of search and rescue memories out there from folks not being prepared for vehicle issues. Have a map, if you keep going any direction you eventually hit a major road with traffic but still, folks found ways of getting lost...

good to see Dennis in the vid. haven't ridden with him for almost 2 years. we could hook up with him at his place in Hesperia next time we ride up to Big Bear.

Roger. thanks for the reply. it gave us ideas about the places to go or to avoid....:lol3

the l.a. adv riders are talking about another campout at Anza Borrego this winter. only been there once and love to go back.

but the road (Cedar Creek Rd) on the left is open. that was a surprise!

my GPS shows that this road will take me across and connects to the remaining Boulder Creek Rd. it was rutted and more like a 2-track. i opted to turn around and take the other route. this will be great on a lighter bike.

That connector isn't really all that tough. I've done it a few times on my GSA. The worst part is all captured in your last picture. It's just a steep up and down then all gravy from there.
