Shaggie,

By the way, after toting this thing around for four years after our visit down there, I finally got it installed on my Aerostich suit a few months ago. :thumbup

The entrance to the famous Homer Tunnel – the Homer Tunnel road has not have a very salubrious winter this year – with record snow build up on the peaks above and all time high numbers of avalanches, the road was closed for a good portion of the chilly season.

Hey Shaggie, excellent photos of one of my favorite places on this planet. Awesome composition and the colors on 'em are stunning which begs the question of what camera or cameras and lenses do you use?

Shane,
Great pics and now I am getting very excited (and nervous) re my upcoming trip. Route is planned and pretty much set. Still looking into places to stay. Want to have a short-list to carry with me and then decide where to stay as I ride.
Off to pack since I leave on the 26th for Oz first before arriving in NZ.

Cheers & great pics!

On the topic of the rider who got killed in that head on collision from 2009, any chance he was from a country like the US where we ride on opposite sides of the road and he somehow forgot about this?

I'd love to ride around NZ and Australia but this has me fairly concerned. One of the really nice things about the USA is that all of our roads that have two lanes traveling in opposite directions (one lane each way but two lanes in total) are separated by a yellow paint stripe whereas two lanes traveling the same direction are separated by white. I can see me getting lost in the moment and then a big reality check as I have the "Oh Shit!" moment of a lifetime; or end thereof.

NZ roads are very rarely 2 lanes in each direction.

You also have to take into account OTHER tourists who occasionally stray to the wrong side of the road.

I meant two lanes in total so one each way with a yellow line between them. I have edited my original post for clarity.

And me riding in the correct lane with another tourist who strays into my lane is something I can do nothing to avoid and is an even more terrifying thought. Nothing worse than doing everything correctly but getting killed anyway.
