I have been running with the H&B tank guards and they are very good but add more weight. When the 990 came out it had large O/E tank protectors in plastic fitted as stock. We all know the carbon ones you can get are lovley but they are £130! ($220). I bought the 990 ones and have fitted them to my 950. GET THIS - THEY ARE £6.78, YES £6.78 EACH!! ($11.50) They have an extra boss at the rear (near you're shin) which would attach to the 990 tank. Obviously the 950 does not have this and so it has to be removed. I used a hot wire but a Drimmel would be ideal. Once I had removed this I added two holes underneath as the stock 950 small bummpers have three holes in them. One big one to attach the tank to the frame and two little ones to attach the bumper to the underside of the tank. The 990 ones do not have these so I drilled them. I filled the hole left from removal of the rear boss with a 3/4" blind rubber grommet and it looks quite stock. I also added a few strips of double sided stiky tape to tighten the fit a little front and rear. The part numbers are 60107013050 L/H and R/H Two tabs go under the (lower) fairing allen bolts and you will have to get longer ones of those (15mm) Not as sexy as Carbon, nor I feel as durable but at the price very worth it and expendable. And they look stock! Hope it helps someone! Robin.
