Thanks guys, I'm more than happy to be corrected.
But which OCR has been the best for you so far?

    For me it would have to be Lorella, for a number of reasons;
It was my first OCR, my first real “outback” trip (and a cracker of a trip it was) and what I would class as my first real adventure ride.
I traveled with some great blokes that took good care of me and taught me well :)
The location was good but possibly the highlight was the informal pre OCR get together at Adele’s Grove.
A close second would have to be Wanaaring because of how we were welcomed by the community, they went all out to look after us.

I'll go along with that, Lorella Springs was a great weekend as was the pre event gathering at Adeles Grove. A bloody great ride through a variety of country to get there.

The trip was spoiled somewhat for me by taking a tumble & fracturing a collarbone on the way out of Lorella.

It certainly rates as the best OCR I've been to.

In terms of community engagment then Wanarring takes a prize, as did their feed in the camp ovens; yum. As far as the ride goes Drysdale wins for me. The trip from the border to Kal & up through the goldfields & out to Carawine gorge was great. The scenery along the Gibb can only be described as stunning. Just got to have the time to do it in daylight next trip

Hands down would be Drysdale for me. But we turned it into a bigger trip with Drysdale itself only a small part.

Hey Blokes, what's the protocol with attending this event?
Does it require booking/registration/advice of intention to attend?
Or is it rock up and find your own tent space?

I'm liking the suggestion of making a double or triple header out of the Border, OCR and TK Memorial and a plan is incubating in my tired old brain.....

    Cheers

It’s not really an event, more a collection of like minded riders that just happen to be in the same place at the same time.
Just turn up, you won’t regret it :D

It will only be my 5th OCR I really enjoyed the others, learning to ride sand out to Cameron Corner, but I need to get at least one more in before my next significant birthday :-) I have an easy route planned staying in pubs, camping only at Montecollina Bore hopefully no where else :-)
Hoping to enthuse a few younger mates on the ride, makes it easier to pick up the bike, although I can count on one hand how many times I have done that on a OCR.

Interested Phil. had a hankerin for the border prior and the TK afterward. Of the 2 I'd drop the border first but TK is at Silverton. Any chance you would consider Vicky, verkin you route?.
I plan on being aboard a Husky TR650 Terra. no real liking for crossing the Nullarbor on it tho. 500 a day is a goodly amount exposed to the slipstream.
just lookin at your math, your planin on Mt Dare for Saturday night yeah?
    Cheers

    Hi Tom

Think my leave pass, yet to be obtained, needs to see me back on the 17th the day before the TK. The last time I went anywhere near the border was going to the Black Duck in the late 70's on my GL1000 outfit, haven't had the desire again :-) Your TR650 will be an easier ride than the 1150GSA! I plan to be at Mt Dare on the Thursday arvo it is always good to see the those arriving over a beer or three.

Looking forward to my first OCR after this years 'border run'. I didn't make Mt Dare last year while up at Finke so it's still on the bucket list. Anyone looking for someone to ride with from 'Port Agutta' or some place North let me know.

Spoke to Graham at Mt Dare yesterday, still one cabin available for the Thursday, the softies have booked out Friday and Saturday :-) When asked how many he should expect my guess was 150-200? BBQ dinner Saturday night, perhaps Friday also. He asked who was in charge I told him no one but I know from experience some know more than others!

Enquired about track from Oodnadatta said it was good at the moment everything of course depends on traffic and rain. Think a diversion going in or out via Dalhousie Springs for a dip would be good.

    G'day Barra,
I'm in Charters Towers, and due to some pestering from a good mate in the Central West, I'm now thinking of making the effort.
I'm only new to ADV riding, that said this would obviously be my first OCR.
If there are others heading there from the North area I'd be happy to tag along. (DRZ400 btw)
    Look forward to updates.
    Cheers.
