Formerly "ReportWMRS Ride (less) Report" I am certain others will post their reports which will be much better than this one but what the hell. Got up to the camp sight on Thursday night and we took an great ride out Friday morning (I have no idea where but pics will follow soon enough) and got up to about 10K feet. At some point the bike stopped running, no idle, nutin... End up having to coast it down this: No motor, a really heavy mountain bike of sorts. Finally get it back to camp (was able to start it but had to keep the R's over 3K just to ride it back to camp). Once there we move the clip up one slot to lean it out. With help from this guy: That was riding this (Yea I hate the fucker too) and if it wasnt him it was his stablemate for the weekend (Really guys thanks for the help it was great) Upped idle screw to max. Ok now it runs, getting dark out so park it for the night. Next day get up to ride with some folks I never met before. Get 8 miles out of camp and we pull over to look for a trail head. I notice and smell smoke. WTF!!! :huh Then I see it, not some hot babe (though there was a nice bit to see at the BBQ) but some of this... What you cant see is the oil running down the front of the engine (those pics didnt come out). Blew the head gasket (valve cover depending on how you look at it) so now murphy has struck three times, the last time was only eight miles from camp. Bike not ridable. So I got to drive over 500 miles to ride 30 miles of dirt for the morning of the first day there. I spent more time wrenching on the bike than I did riding it this weekend. Anyone want to trade for a plated XR ? So my mood meter for the weekend from time I left on Thursday went somthing like this. Thursday morning On the road Riding Friday morning (only rode till noon) :huh Why aint it running Moved clip all is good again It was an ADV event afterall...that night I get to ride today :huh Why am I seeing smoke Gasket blew, bike is done for the trip.... Link to website with all the pics from the weekend: https://dsm8.smugmug.com/gallery/1745667 Too lazy to deal with all the pics right now, getting ready to burn a bike. Where are those smores.....
Well I guess if your gonna get stuck around somplace that was a good one to be at.... Still looking forward to some of the ride reports from others , surprised I havent seen any yet.
Guess the bike knew somthing I didnt, decided it needed a beer, and head gasket and carb work, and air filter and......
Whats the deal, every picture of a rider actually riding is of zen slug.I think he is cute and all but didnt anyone else ride?
sdmdm8, how is the knee? You said something about busting your knee saturday morning when we planned the ride. Better luck next time anyways.
The knee was pretty sore by Sunday and I was limping pretty good. Managed to bruise the knee cap which if you have never done is a very weird feeling. Hurts to bend the leg etc but in a odd sort of way. Maybe the bike breaking was a hint not to keep pushing my luck that weekend. :eek1 Overall it is getting better will be fine in a few more days. Figures that was the first time I rode without the kneepads too.....fukin rocks (Shakes fist at rocks).
RiverRat was so happy he made through the rocks of death... ... he promptly ate it after clearing the obstacle
How fitting that your 666 post includes the image of somone treating your red headed step child with the respect it deserves ?
So, Hurty and I got home on Sunday after getting caught in some slab traffic. Serves us right for taking the road more traveled, but I needed to get home. We got to the camp ground and met up with Stonewall on thurs. Stonewall was sitting next to a full cooler of iced beer, which made him an even more welcomed sight. As Hurty and I are new to the GS, we requested a milder ride. I've done plenty of dirt bike riding in my time, but not on a pig. So, I'm off to Smugmug to download some pics. See ya soon.
Many thanks to Stonewall for setting this up. I was only able to camp out on Sunday night. Nice meeting the guys that were there. I'll be there next year for sure.
