Yes - there was a lot of talk about making this an annual event, probably early November. This year it was 11/12-15. The pig would be perfect, assuming it has a big fuel cell...

Cool. The piggy has an 8 gallon tank. It's an 04 GS adv. I spent a few days going from Twin Falls to Caliente Nv on the back roads. Nevada is some awesome riding!

I finally made it home and got a couple photos uploaded.

Thanks to Joel and Jimmy and all those who helped put on this event! It is great to be able to travel 1000 miles from home, and find that you FF's are just as crazy as the ones up here in the PNW! Also thanks a lot to Larry and Tim for leading and sweeping the Friday intermediate ride.

Another shot of the Pioneer Saloon. What a great place to ride for lunch.

On Saturday I took a solo dualsport ride to see Tecopa Hot Springs. The Hot Springs wasn't much to look at, but I did see a unique bike carrier:

Day 1 (Wednesday) - Tecopa - Sperry Wash & Kingston Wash

Scott (fishwisperer) and I left the SF Bay area Tuesday afternoon. He made it to Baker and I boondocked off of Ibex Spring Rd that evening. We met up Wednesday morning at Tecopa Hot Springs Campground & Pools, picked a campsite and unloaded the bikes.

    Day 1 tracks:

First up was Sperry Wash. It didn't seem too affected by the recent storms and the trail was easy to follow. The most interesting and scenic part of this route is the multiple crossings of the Armagosa River. Here are some pics from Sperry Wash:

The stacked stones are trail markers for the motorized corridor thru the wilderness area.

Took a quick side trip to get a view of Dumont Dunes.

After Sperry Wash, Scott and I decided to do Kingston Wash. It was mid afternoon by then and I warned him we would probably be rolling back into camp after dark. I had done it before and knew it wouldn't present any technical challenges, but we found this wash had been really scoured by the storms and the proper/best route was very vague. We were sometimes following tire tracks but then we'd find ourselves in a section with no tracks and guessing which branch of sand to take thru the wash. Other than the concern over how much daylight we had it was actually quite fun, though it was important to keep in visual sight of one another as it would be hard to find a downed rider within the wash. We didn't stop to take pictures (or visit the Crusty Bunny Cabin) and made it to the end of that trail at sunset, leaving us a one hour ride back to Tecopa in the dark on dirt roads.

You guys know how cold it got after the sun went down, so after the dark arrival back at camp we took advantage of the hot spring pools at the campground as access was included in our camping fees.

Day 2 (Thursday) - Tecopa - Buckwheat Wash and Ibex Springs

    Day 2 tracks:

Buckwheat Wash (past Ibex Springs) is probably one of the least traveled backroads within Death Valley. It wasn't rearranged in the storms as much as Kingston Wash, but there is just the slightest hint of the track, usually as a jeep wide break in the brush rather than a proper road. It was a lot of fun.

Be careful of this washout early on Ibex Springs Rd.

Bikes parked at Buckwheat Cabin (end of the trail):

Not a cabin you want to spend much time in as this greets you when you open the door:

Scott signing the log book. Only a couple of entries per year. My 2011 entry was only a few pages back.

    The "trail" thru Buckwheat Wash:

On the way back we took a detour to Moorehouse Mine.

    View from the mine.

And another side trip to Ibex Springs and mining camp remains.

This shed still houses one of the camp's water sources.

Got back to Tecopa and saw this cool rig at the campground.

Loaded up the bikes, got in another soak at the hot spring pools and drove over to Pahrump before dark. Bill (Speed Racer) joined us in Pahrump.
