Mid Sept snow can happen, for sure. Just keeps things exciting! I remember going up Imogene in about 6" of snow once in late September. I was surprised how good the traction actually was...until we turned around! There was a lot of puckering and sliding for life coming back down above Tomboy for sure. If it dumps hard, then more time for camaraderie around the fire, and telling BS stories about how good we used to be!

Its the mountains! Twice i have lost feeling in my fingers in late July rides on Bolam pass, from when rain changed to snow..and two years ago i was on top of Pole Creek, over 12k i think, in late October, in just armor and a jersey, no snow and comfortable as can be...

Signed Up, Waiver Sent, Paid - Invoice #30. Wow ... did I really pay 7 months in advance? Guess I am committed now.

KOA quoted rates for single room Camper Cabin $85/night for 2 people. Tent camping $38/night for 2 people.

I'm getting excited already! September seems like an awfully long time away, but I'm making headway on the beer connections already, so I got that going for me!

I'm in 1+ another coming in from Wichita KS . We've got a tent site at the KOA near "pond D". I'm transitioning from a WR250R to a KTM 690 (picking it up in 2 days). I hope the new bike is a good fit. I've not ridden this part of Colorado and this is one of the top rides I've got planned. Looking forward to it!

You are gonna love that bike around here! The added power and suspension travel will be perfect for 90% of the roads/trails in the San Juan's. You may find it a bit large for a handful of single track, but otherwise it will be perfect!!
You might look into a computer remap that accommodates altitude just prior to heading up here. You'll start at 8K feet and go up as high as 11K. Your local dealer should be able to map the EMU to accommodate that. If its an older carbureted model then look into a jet swap. You can then change back once you get home.

    See you in Sept!!

11k? Why limit him? Isn't Imogene like 13k? Ha! That bike seems like the perfect pass bike, plenty of power but capable enough to dance through the harder sections, not just "make it" to the top.

...Ummmm he's from Kansas! His body will fail to function above 11K ft...and we'll just be left picking up the brain soup! :jack:photog

Plenty of riding in Montrose for the non altitude acclimated .
For those following along, if you are bringing the smaller, more play bike oriented toys, you should really consider catching at least a few hours at Peach Valley (near Olathe), Flattop (outside Montrose, same riding area as Peach, but the southern staging area). Huge dirt riding area, ditches, hill climbs, single track, knife ridges, enduro cross course, jump track...it is a fairly mind boggling area of off road riding. Hartman Rocks is another fun area outside Gunnison to play at.
Just some thoughts if you are coming from a ways away, might be worth allowing a little extra time for these places . You won't regret it.

Don't worry, they issue us "Flatlanders" pressurized suits at the boarder to deal with the thin air above 1,500'. :clap

Thanks for the info I will definitely check that out on the 250. Was planning on getting there a couple of days early and that looks too good to pass up.

I must have slipped in under the cover of darkness last year. I could have used one of those suits. Damn near suffocated trying to tie my shoes!:jack

Here's a little song from the former mayor of Ouray, just to remind you of one of the fun roads in the area..
