Any recommendations for an offline app for turn by turn directions? I'd like to replace my aging Garmin, 3D mapping would be preferred. I do all my trip planning on ridewithgps and share/export the gpx tracks.

    Needs
    • Offline (no sim card in android phone)
    • GPX imported track following, no automatic recalculation for slight detours/stops
    • Display street names for turns (not just turn right on a unidentified street in x ft)
    Wants
    • 3D simplified map view like google/waze/garmin
    • Free or one time payment

    Which platform?
    What sort of budget?
What do you mean by 3D? (shows topo real-time...or the garmin like display)

I like CoPilot. Though you need to convert the GPX to a TRP file.
OSMand is also good. But I don't think it has 3D.

I actually hate 3D displays. Never understood why so many apps use it.

Does OSMand give street names for upcoming turns when following a gpx route? I was testing it and locus and it seemed to just show which way to turn and distance. From what I've heard sometimes it isn't actually a turn just a veer in the road. When riding with a large group I find it beneficial to be able to discuss what the actual turn is going to be ahead of time with the other riders.

Is there an offline app for copilot to convert GPX to TRP files?

OsmAnd will if you are using their routing engine, if you swap to BRouter that stops.
Locus Pro will as well if they are entered in the OSM database (they aren't always) and you are using Graphopper

Both will call out bends in the road based on geometry if you use a thrid party .GPX

I would try Furkot so such matters or any of the other conversion site. Not sure there is something that works offline though I have never had it come up.

I use a program called ITNconverter, to convert about anything to about anything. Works offline to convert. If online it can download maps and you can edit the files also.
It is Windows, so it could be a hassle for many people when traveling.
