If the title doesn’t say “for off-road use only”,
Just take title, proof of ins, and your check book
to a tag agency of your choice, you should be good to go. But it’s been 12 years since I last tagged a dirt bike so it may be diff now.

If the title says for off road use only get receipts for lights, horn, turn signals, mirrors and take those with the title to a tag agency, if they tell you no just go to another tag agency, some are picky, some just take your money. My closest tag agent tells me no way, the one ten miles down the road doesn't even look up.
I think it's actually easier now than it was several years ago.

Or just go to the state tax office by the capitol and tell them you are putting all that stuff on. The tax office is often the most lenient as far as checking what you've done, they just want your money.

This was exactly my experience as well. Went to my local agent who I’ve known personally for many years and was told it isn’t possible. Went to another tag office and went without a hitch with documentation of a street legal kit installed. Also required a personal inspection by the agent to verify VIN. The state even has a form specific to this process for the agent to fill out and submit with your verification paperwork.

Don’t give up if the first agent says no way.

I don't actually see that anywhere on the Title. I may just slap a kit on it, keep my receipts, and go try to get a tag.

If it doesn't say "Off Road Only" in obvious print just take it to tag agency, don't bother with kit, receipts or anything. If they reject you it's no big deal, there is no memory of that rejection, you will just be out a little bit of waiting in line time.
Before you ride on the street just be sure it has headlight and working brake lights so cops won't bother you and you're fine.

Oh, and be sure and report back here as to how you get treated.

Hey fellas! Long time lurker, but haven't posted much on the forum. Tulsa area born and raised.
Not sure I fit in very well, riding a GSX-R750.
But you guys/gals are definitely cooler than the sportbike specific forum regulars I've spoken with. Hope to contribute and learn a lot.

    Boomer!

I think I know this @BigLou85 fella character. Watch him close, he can't be trusted.

Just kidding he should fit in fine once he gets a real bike. And now he gets to try to figure out who I am.:hide

I think I have a pretty good idea.

I'll be forced to get a more "proper" bike before too long, given how the ol back feels lately.

The VIN inspection isn't required to get a tag for the vehicle, they just won't send the title until you have it done. With my WR450F I handed them the Texas title and told them I just bought it. They said "OK" and started doing paperwork. Didn't ask about lights, horn, anything. I walked out with a tag. Same with my VFR. I bought it in Colorado and they gave me the tag right then. I went back the next day and had the VIN inspection done. It cost an extra $4 though, which irritated me. I figured it was just part of getting it tagged, but no. OK needs money, I guess.

I don't think anyone around here will give you to much trouble about having a gixer, most also have street bikes to go with their dualsports/adv bikeks/dirt bikes.

I don't think you would be the only bad back on these pages. Ask around there is a lot of good advice available.

Sounds good man, if I get the chance to add another to the stable it'll definitely be a dual purpose bike for sure.

Okies- The OKC newspaper outdoor writer is looking for fishing stories. See below and reach out to him if you have any gems. Thanks :fishie

"I need a favor. I need fish stories for a our magazine next month. I am talking about Reader's Digest kind of stuff. The humorous and weird things that's happened to people while fishing. Or it could be sentimental stories like fishing with grandpa, are taking a son or daughter. Or it could be about the best fishing day ever. The kind of story you tell at the cafe. ... Anyway, I would appreciate spreading the word. Surely, we can come up with a few jewels. Anyone with a contribution should email me at egodfrey@oklahoman.com"
