Took a trip up through Washington State and found some fun abandoned roads, post up some of your favorites too!
I've been there! When we did Route 66 a few years ago we followed as much of the original route as possible, even if it meant turning around after a few minutes. Awesome trip!!
They're actually not far from the Mary Hill Museum in the gorge. There's TONS around Klikatat where they abandoned the old single lane forestry roads when the highway went in.
No, actually that road was part of an 11 hour ride I was on with my dad. I'll have to check into it though, thanks!
Here's something that was nearby to where you were - the Maryhill Loops Road - closed, experimental road I rode a few years ago. If you look closely, you see a rider descending:
This road once served a ferry across the Columbia river. In your picture you can see the connecting road on the other side of the river. Not far from that particular road, on another (nearly) abandoned road you can camp right on the Columbia river for free with a nice view of the Vantage bridge thrown in for good measure.
