About a week till departure. Yeah, we're all busy final prepping the bikes, loading our GPS receivers and thinking about what to pack. Six old guys (sorry not PC - mature guys) from Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee on the Western Continental Divide. Five of us are clustered around 70 with one young whippersnapper at 61. We'll ride about 2550 miles including 700 or so on pavement returning to the starting point.

    Two of our group...

...did the Canada to Rawlins, WY section of the CDR a couple of years ago. (Pictures here) We'll pick up the CDR at Rawlins where we left off and point 'em south mostly sticking to the blue track.

    We are:
    • Bill - EXC350
    • Galen (Pyg Rydr) - WR250
    • Graham - KTM450
    • Jim (me) - DR650
    • Lanny - DR650
    • Robert - DRZ400
We are all are seasoned (some might say TOO seasoned) riders on well prepared bikes.

We will trailer out and pick up the CDR at Rawlins. At the Mexican border in Antelope Wells, NM we'll turn back north on secondary paved roads to our tow vehicles. Nine days on the bikes. No camping - we're staying in motels, B&Bs and Dude Ranches.

Pics and ride report to come in this thread. Pull up a chair and join us!

Looking forward to reading your reports. I'm only 48 yrs old, but I like how you old geezers be travelin' - that is, hotelling it and staying in dude ranches. Fawk camping!

BTW, do you have any idea what your average cost for hotels was on your previous trip north on the CDR?

I will be following along until I head out to start where I left off last year at the Grand Tetons. I will leave on Saturday the 29th from Boise on my DRZ400.
The advantage of living in the west - no trailer for me - can just head out and find as many dirt roads as possible across the state.
I am only going to ride as far as Chama, NM, camping most of the way. I will be looking out for you guys.

We won't be leaving here till the 28th with a couple of days of trailer time between here and the CDR. Since you're starting in Idaho it sounds like you'll still be a bit behind us. But you might catch up - we'll be easy to identify now that you know what to look for.

On the way back up through pavement you may want to consider the 191 from Morenci, AZ to Alpine, AZ. Have fun.

I don't but Galen might. I do recall it varied a lot from less than $50/person in motels to $80+ at the B&B/Ranch places.

    Solder 311,

Our room costs varied greatly, depending on many factors. Days Inn-Super 8-Motel 6-Best Western typical motel/hotel rates. Lodging at Hunters Peak Ranch, Standing Stone BB, and couple others varied on the number in our party and per room or cabin. And some we added dinner and many had breakfast. I think the $50-$80 is a likely range. BTW, Motel 6 in Dillon, MT is not recommended.
