Going to try and document this latest project as recommended by a very class act name Villageidiot.
For some reason this entire sub forum has escaped my notice until Colby made the recommendation - I'm not the brightest knife in the drawer, so don't expect to be overly impressed.
However, if you're the kind of person who buys their pants with different leg lengths, or T-shirts with mis-spelled words, then this thread is sure to deliver!

Here's a couple of recently completed projects from earlier this year.

1974 CB360T: Yeah, I know...they're not supposed to exist, but this is Canada and we get weird shit from Honda.

This one isn't a classic, but it was a fun project.
    Some people rescue animals.
    I rescue motorbikes.
It might not look much different between the "before" and "after" pictures, but there's over 60 hours of labor and $1200 in parts separating the two.
It's sold to a young fella, just waiting on him getting the money together.

    The current project is a 1974 Honda CB550 K0.

Teardown is done - there's a couple missing pieces, and one broken part.
Carbs are from a '77-78 CB550K, so that might mess things up with the air chamber boots - guess we'll burn that bridge when we get to it.
Speaking of air chamber, that's one of the missing pieces.

Found one on Ebay - good to go.

    Busted tach bracket:

Missing the headlight and rings, but it's good to have friends with parts bikes - already got replacements reserved:

Had to trade that sweet backrest for 'em though:

Its amazing it still had the stock exhaust. They are spendy to replace. Are they in pretty good shape?

Not perfect, but good enough for this scrub.
Haven't looked inside yet, but the outsides are sound with light surface rust and some minor vacancies near the end of one.
Brackets are solid - I'm quite happy with the condition to be sure.

Yesterday's progress was limited - there needs to be more leisure hours in the day!

Forks disassembled and cleaned, ready for parts.
    IMG_4961.jpg

Steering head disassembled and cleaned, ready for new bearings.
    IMG_4962.jpg

A few parts cleaned, stripped and repainted - ready for reassembly.

Fuel tank is coming along nicely - love seeing the rust come out.

    Kirk,
I saw a 1980 Honda Goldwing --running well-- that I am thinking of getting. Those were also sweet bikes when in standard form without the fairing.

Imu - the Goldwings are amazing machines, I also like the looks.
Any chance I could convince you to maybe look at the 750 or 900 Customs as an alternative?
I believe they represent a similar look, but a much better option for your real world application.
They are cheap and abundant around here, perhaps the same for Michigan?

I might have a rack of carbs for a 500. I have a 500 in a box. The body work is crap but got a bunch of hard parts. If your interested I will check one evening and see what year the bike is.
