    Almost sundown.

Hike up to the viewpoint to watch darkness descend.

Fight the cold as long as I could stand it, then start a fire in the stove.

    Tamales for dinner.

    We'll ride tomorrow, goodnight.

Hey, do you guys know the way to Arrastre Spring?

It's a hell of a climb up to the spring with no switchbacks, just steady straight elevation gain and the bike doesn't like that.

I've really got to figure out the why, starting to think head gasket.

Oh well, I'll let it cool down while I go for a hike.

I made it all of the way above the spring and there were some owls living there...tried to get a picture of them, but they went deeper into the brush.

I'm looking for 'glyphs, but this is all I found and it's probably modern/vandalism.

I've read that the 'glyphs are on a scree slope and that's probably the area over there, but my legs feel like rubber and I'm going to put my drinking water in the bike, so I don't hike over there.

Back to the bike I put on a fresh hose clamp and topped off the radiator.

    Back into the valley.

You might have noticed this green bag I'm packing now. I gathered up all the garbage I could carry from Russ' Place and found this old bag to put it in and strapped it to the bike.

I dug it out of there and super strapped it back to the bike and I haven't seen it since. No good deed goes unpunished I suppose.

Decided to try something new, I know nothing of the trail conditions and promise myself to turn around when I stop having fun.

Miles and miles of rocks, I stopped having fun right about here.

Turned around and started back down.

Had a great conversation with the barkeep, he told me about the time that one of the guys from Black Sabbath got drunk, broke a window and got arrested.

It had a drawstring too, tied it multiple times, bungees over and through, kept all my crap, lost the attempted good deed.

I would read your story. When does it come out? Do I get a free copy, if I know the author?

Cold and windy night, a storm front is supposed to be coming soon.

I think White Top Mtn is the area I'm at. I'll scout around a bit before heading back down, but probably won't get far as I could see the snow up here from near Ubehebe Crater.

If it went somewhere I'd push on, but that's enough for this time.

I had seen something last night on the way up here.

So I'm looking around to see what I can see.

I had assumed it was somebody camping, I even stopped and took out the earplugs because I totally had the impression that I'd round a corner and see a campsite. It'd been a canopy lit from inside like a tent with a light in it and a red light to the left of the tent, it was stationary and never moved, but I had lost sight of it when I went around a corner.
