The jets were out playing today.

and three of these big boys came over, I've never seen them out here before. C5, Dave? Or maybe the Stratotanker? They seemed massive, but looking at my pictures it doesn't seem C5 massive and I can see the refueling dongle in a couple of snaps.

I hadn't eaten today, so I set up camp and had some grub. Last Beer Dan won't be here this time, so I'll have to fend for myself.

Spent the morning lounging around and visiting with friends. Lunch time came around...that's my diatomaceous earth I'm mixing into my chili.

    This guy wanted a share.

I might be running a couple of days into one because we had a steady rain for 30 hours that had me locked in my tent. It was cold and if I got wet I had no way to dry off, so I just hunkered down and came out when I could.

The crew all got together to blow out the pipes and clean the screens in the source pool, there's about 300 years of Saline Valley experience in these pictures.

There might be a hot dog in that picture of Annette, but it was cold, I don't think you can see anything. :lol3

Went down to Bill's for the annual Saturday night taco feed and blood orange margarita's.

We didn't do the golf tournament this year due to the rain, the ground swelled up and it's dangerous when you can't see the rocks.

    Goodnight...

Everybody went down for the softball game, but I stayed around camp, scrubbed up my pots and pans, chased a few burro's out of various camps, finished up my book and donated it to the library.

I had given all of the food I had left to Clarence, he'll be here a couple more weeks and I'm counting on the potluck to fill my belly.

Nice evening spent sipping mead and getting warm around Silver Bob's invention.

Too big for motorcycle travel, but I might get one for the backyard and car trips.

Pack up and kickstand up at 6:30 the next morning. The North Pass has many feet of snow, the South Pass is super muddy...I'll be taking Steele Pass.

Really fun riding on packed in wet dirt I'm soon at the pass.

    Piston Point

    Down the last step.

    Eureka Dunes

Then it got cold and miserable, didn't take pictures of the ice/snow I had to navigate, then it turned to rain before town.

Got warm and had a nice breakfast in Big Pine.

I'd bought a cheap plastic poncho at the gas station in Big Pine and made it through heavy rain for about 80 miles..water across 395 at one point. Hit sunshine and put away the poncho before it got too shredded.

Highway 178 all the way through Bakersfield, then 99 northbound, stayed dry until I hit a frog stangler about 20 miles from home, just gutted it out and got soaked.

and so another journey comes to an end...

    until next time...

    1. I'm probably not the only one to scroll back to the pic of Annette...
    2. I see Major Tom is still decorating the trees...
    3. Most riders would choose snow and/or mud over Steele Pass...
    4. I may be more comfortable in Saline Valley when it's cold...
    5. Great report!
    6. Glad you were able to spend quality time at your "home"...
    7. Thanks for sharing...
    8. Get a proper rainsuit, dammit.

Wow, that is some serious riding and cooking. How did you keep your chicken, shrimp and meat cold in your panniers? Loved the insight into the Death Valley ADV sub-culture.

Freeze everything and use a little ice chest, sometimes potluck(shrimp) with others.

    Thanks for reading, all.
