Really enjoyed reading this thread. Best moto camp-food I've ever seen.
I've read Hosseini's 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' , 'Echoed' should be excellent as well. I like a book that lasts a bit, I went through the 'Che' book in less than a day.
Thanks all for reading and commenting!!
Thanks for taking us along, and those deep fried hens look tasty.
Highway 50 overlooking Lake Tahoe.
Secret Gardnerville bypass route.
Beer, whiskey, firewood and an apple in Bishop...essentials.

Tried my new REI Camp Dome 2 without the rainfly the first night and froze my buns right off.
The Wizard Tub was nasty dirty last night, first order of business was to scrub that bastard down.
Spent the day reading and hanging out with Sacramento Dan. Ken and fam got in near dark with their scratch built yurt.
Fried up a couple chops for Dan and I.
Finally got to use my new Streamlight LED lantern!!
Hey, that Streamlight works! I got one too - now I know it was worth it!
Need a good breakfast because today is the 'Turtle Jim Desert Classic' golf tournament...also known as rock ping pong.
Coffee, bacon and an oatmeal pill should do.
Meeting for the rules...one ball, must be returned with your marking...one 7 iron, only club you get...you are required to improve your lie, we don't want broken arms in the rocks.
Drew numbers...I'm with Flipper and Tammy.
It was a lot of fun!! You either get it close on your first shot or you have hell to pay, I shot a 35 for 5 holes and the winner shot a 13.
More cool rigs came in today, 4x4 Fuso camper.
Justin's shortbed Chevy with one ton axles, I think he said he's had it since new and something like 350,000 miles.
My camp with Dan's place behind me.

Time for Tahoe Tammy's birthday potluck!! Man, we ate good. :dg
Did you hear anything about the BLM's future plans
for the springs?
see you around the campfire,
Darn, I'm late to the party again but at least I found my way.
Hey John, NPS not BLM...we can only dream of the good old BLM days.
Worst case option that is on the table, full removal of everything and a return to "wilderness". Go here and download the PDF's to read about what's going on.
I'll plan for the worst and hope for the best, I'll be going to the springs as often as I can afford before implementation of whatever they do in spring of 2016. I'm even going to get one of these offroad rigs of mine done and do a full 30 day that we're allowed to do now since it looks like one of the options they are looking at will be a by permit stay of seven days only.
Hello to all reading again!!
So, I've known Pilot Dave for awhile now and Sacramento Dan was going to go up in his plane, as they're getting ready to go down to the airport Dave asks if I want to go...ok, I'll go. I'm terrified of heights, but you just have to live and face fears. I once took a job rappelling out of helicopters. :eek1
I figured I'd at least go down to the plane and see how I felt about Dave as a pilot during pre-flight and if I got scared and didn't go I could blame it on him.
Well, the guy is good and ran us through a full pre-flight...he happens to be an instructor too...dammit, looks like I HAVE to go flying.
This thing has a big six cylinder engine, very powerful...couple of bumps and we're in the air.
I turned down a full day little plane flight when I was six years old, I'd get car sick on the way to Grandpa's house and didn't want to throw up in a plane. Dan had passed me his jacket and I said, "Good, I needed something to barf in."
Dave showed us where they used to mine the salt.
and the old road into the springs.
Then we headed up to see the Willow Creek Ranch where Turtle Jim used to have his performing burro's. As we got close to the mountains we caught a pretty good down draft off the Inyo's and we dropped a couple hundred feet like it was nothing, I heard the stall warning buzz a couple of times and about pooped my pants...Dave took a look at me, I must have been white as a sheet.
He explains what he did to correct, powered up and moved away from the mountain range, but it was getting pretty bumpy and he promised that we'd start heading back. Sure am glad we had headset's with a professional soothing voice in my ears!!
Oh, there's Willow Creek!!
Heading back now.
Dave is by the book and very good, we go by the strip to check the wind sock and make sure that it's clear of people and vehicles. Then he makes the turn, leans forward to get a view around the wing, 20% flaps and he starts taking power away, puts the prop pitch into first gear and we head in.
Bump and we're on the ground!!
It's time for the big softball game!! I tried really hard to snap a picture without naked people in it, Wormz with a z is naked and singing the national anthem right here, but I got her just out of the picture so I could show it here...boy, she has a nice set of...pipes. What did you think I was gonna say?
We mooched some shade under Scott and Annette's awning, you've met them before in my reports. Sweet little dog hanging out with us, a little bit rat and a touch bull terrier.
oldbmw and his buds stopped by to say hello.
The Misfits lost this year, oh well, can't win 'em all!!
Back to camp...
Had the big potluck, 40 feet worth of tables chock full of food...man, that was awesome!!
Great stuff Rob. I'm still laughing about your plane ride.
I flew to Mammoth once in a low powered 4 place plane and know about those down drafts. When we were taking off from Mammoth we had to circle to get altitude and while we were going up we hit a down draft that dropped us suddenly. We recovered but I thought we were going to all the way to the ground.
I'd rather stay on two wheels........
The last of my bacon.
Soaking and reading for today. I don't think I've shared this bit of history before, sorry if I have already.
Dave gave Tammy a lift home...
Snack and nap.
Dan and I did a surf and turf dinner. I brought the turf.
Dan brought the surf..Ahi and shrimps.
Finished the day with a nice time of guitar playing at the lower springs.
Stopped near Mono Lake to put my heated glove liners on...brrr, cold out.
Stopped at Jethros, crust was awesome..the rest was icky.
130 miles left to go, just gonna hammer through it...passed a bunch of cars on highway 50.
Another 5 days in the great and mysterious Saline Valley. Thanks for coming along, until next time...ride.
