One of the finest things about using a scooter is that the commute can be the most fun you have all day.

    Great success!

Temperature is going up when stopped at lights. Burped it twice and no air so I'm not sure what (if anything) the issue is. It's got an oversized cylinder and I seem to recall that it was doing the same thing prior to this little side-adventure so maybe it's fine.

Comfort wise it's worlds away from the SMax. I can sit upright. I have decent wind protection. It has a range of acceleration, not just 0 and 8000 RPM.

    Happy days!

The seat hump still has to go but it's OH-SO-MUCH-MORE-COMFORTABLE.

Upholstery school will start sometime in the new year. Stay tuned.

My 2007 BV250 temp rises pretty quick in traffic and riding slow. I feel like the radiator is sealed inside the front cowl too much. When I ride it without the center cover over the fuel filler lots of heat comes out through the opening.

As long as the fan comes on and it doesn’t overheat, sounds like normal Piaggio behavior to me. My BV350 does the same.

So glad you put this thing back together. Congrats on a job well done!

    It's over 245.

The Malossi brings it up to 269. (75.5 x 63)

Good to know about the temps. It's been so long since I rode it that I had completely forgotten how the gauge read!

    75.5 x 63 = 282cc.

    Isn't max 278 or 279?

You might have an issue with the SCB. Sucks, but better to know now:

    Sorry, it's 75.5 x 60. The 300 engine has the longer stroke.

Btw, you guys really need hobbies.

Checking displacement numbers first thing on a Saturday morning is just wrong.

Thanks, but the numbers have been crunched. I was typing from (faulty) memory.

Personally, I don't think anybody on an SMAX who can navigate and isn't carrying too much weight can be beat. Reality has proven that the 250 consistently dominates the podium. The extra power makes a difference, even with the handicap penalty. For *me* the ideal platform is an older, unmodified (displacement wise) FI 200-250 cc platform. This really narrows things down to the Piaggio engines, circa 2008 or so.

As for all the 'upgrades'... I had originally wanted to only replace the stock head with the Malossi but quickly discovered that I had to machine the piston and cylinder in order to do so. It was cheaper and easier in the short term to slap on the larger cylinder. The goal was to then find somebody who could help with the machining and swap them back at some point. :-)

    Fate, however, had other plans.

I'm currently hunting for another 250 for the cannonball. Stinky Pinky will be my daily driver for the foreseeable future. I've expanded my search to the New England area. It might be worth trading the hassle of shipping for a day of fluid, filter and tire changes. Dunno.

That's the plan as of today.

If you you've been following so far, you know that it will change...

...most likely in a spectacular, true-to form, train-wrecky fashion. :muutt

You are right about the Smax.

I was thinking about buying one for the Cannonball.

But I sat on one this weekend.

I don’t think I could stand riding one for ten straight 7+ hour days.

If I do run the SCR in 2020, it will be on a Vespa GT.

1 week in and Princess Stinky is running A-OK.

I think I'm going to risk taking out one of the variator washers (I put in two to lower the RPMS a bit) next week. It needs just a little more oomph.

Why don't I just go out to the garage and do it?

Well, I've been busy doing other things that I'm hopelessly unqualified to do.

    This past week:

    Tiling!

I got sick of staring at this for a year.

    IMG_20191109_083903918.jpg

Reworked the fireplace facade in preparation of 'making it pretty someday'. Got the green light to wire up and mount the TV and HIFI to my liking under that pretense.

After a full YEAR of waiting for someone to decide on a tile pattern that would be agreeable, I made an executive decision and picked up this pattern:

    100609197_fiorella-matte-ceramic-tile_main.jpg

Moorish inspired pattern that could work with our Mid-Century Modern house at a price that won't break the bank.

    Sold!

    We begin.

    IMG_20191109_095354019_HDR.jpg

TV is down, we mean business.

    IMG_20191118_183817177.jpg

It was HOT and incredibly dry yesterday. Note the humidifier in the corner. The thinset dried up just before I got to the last course.

    I learned a few things.

    I kinda suck at tiling.

    and...

    I kinda don't.

    IMG_20191118_183827711.jpg

Note the laser line. Pretty spot in.

    Hurray!

My photo taking skills on the other hand... :ksteve

Any of you lurkers heading to the Long Beach IMS show this weekend?

It looks like I'll be going on Friday after work to shop and again on Sat to meet up with some Cannonballers.

Bonus points if you find the Pink Princess in the lot and post a photo!
