    Greetings from Rio Gallegos!

Made it here a little bit ago, took care of some admin work and have good wi-fi! Guess I'll get an update going.....

As you may recall, I left Ushuaia and headed for Rio Grande yesterday. Here's the top of Paso Garibaldi!

Looking downhill to the north! This was the last shot I took for the day because I took some on the way down. I pulled into Rio Grande early, found a hotel and called it a day. I took care of some admin crap, shopping, recharging the phone and looking for a place in Rio Gallegos, my next stop. The wind forecast didn't look too bad early in the day, so I decided to get an early start.

I was up before 0600, loaded the bike, had breakfast and was rolling by 0800. As I rode out, It started to sprinkle on me. Great. Just as I was about to make my left turn out of town, I saw something just south of me! Rain or not, gotta' go take a peek!

    A mirage on a stick!

What Jarhead could pass one of these without taking a shot of this?

I breezed through the Argentine side and headed into Chile for the last time! The rain never materialized, thankfully!

After checking into Chile, I was off to the ferry in Bahia Azul! There come the ferry! One last ferry ride for Big Red and I!

    Time to load!

    Our turn!

I met this Malaysian couple, Woon and Angie on the ferry. He has been ALL over since 2016! The Stans, Pakistan, and a bunch in Africa. Crazy. His wife joins him every now and again and they go two up! Pretty cool meeting other travelers and hearing their stories.

Going into Argentina for the last time!

There was a long line of Argentine people going home after Christmas. Took about 30 minutes here, not too bad. However, the Aduana officer would not fix the V.I.N. number on my T.V.I.P., so now I'm trying to get that sorted here in Rio Gallegos!

On the road in Rio Gallegos!

Ok, gotta go to the Aduana here!.. Be back in a bit!

I've really enjoyed your ride tale Esteban! Your photos are great, especially those in Chile & Argentina... what beautiful areas of the world to explore.

Were all your overnight stays at hotels & hostels pre-planned or were you winging it most of the time? How many miles have you logged so far on your trip? Sorry if I missed those details somewhere in your report. :-)

Hey Steve.... been following along. Can't say anything that hasn't been said already. One hell of an adventure. Just like the race team, I appreciate your taking me along for the experience, if only from my computer this time. Safe travels home.

A lot were done "on the fly". I would usually look up the next place I was going on I-overlander and bookmark it for the next day. Upon arrival in the town, i would get gas first, then plug the place in and go there.

When i was travelling with Arjan, he would do the negotiating! He has the gift of getting a real good discount!

Only when i wanted a nice, particular place would i book ahead. I also used Airbnb too, which u have to book in advance.

The downside of booking in advance is that it can force your hand, making you have to go to a place.

    Hope that helps!

Forgot to post this up the other day, so I will do it now.

While walking around on Christmas day in Ushuaia, I saw the Argentine Navy decorated a couple of their ships...…

Today I'm off to El Calafate to spend New Years with Thomas and Sandra!

    Stay tuned.....

    El Calafate!

Hello all! Made it here yesterday afternoon after a windy last half of the ride! The way up was pretty barren as these pictures show.

Made it to the Airbnb Thomas and Sandra are staying at and got Big Red parked with the trusty KTM's. We also have 24 hr. guard service keeping an eye on our bikes!

Not sure how viscous this young guy is, but he's on the job!

Thomas and Sandra took me to their local brewery for happy hour! Indeed, good beer! :drink We walked back after going shopping and had a wonderful home cooked meal! :dukegirl

Ima hang here with Thomas and Sandra till after the New Year, then head toward Buenos Aires next week.

    Thanks again for coming along!

Until next time, watch out for those guard dogs! :lol3

Hi Paul! Thanks, all good here in El Calafate with @Thomas B. and Sandra! Not sure how big a new years party we'll be having, but we are having a big leg o lamb for dinner!:dukegirl

Starting on the 2nd, I'll head north on Ruta 3 and should be in Buenos Aires by the 12th. Shipping the bike should be fairly easy and I hope to be home before the end of the month!
